@AnaKrivolapova Didn't realize this one was rare. Checked my copy, which I think I picked up in a used bookstore, and it's a first printing 🤓 Time for a revisit soon, but I'll have to handle it carefully
Been thinking about this one constantly: my favorite Brautigan I don't own because it's rare and haven't reread because it's painful. He is less whimsical in this pseudoautobiographical novel about injuring his friend as a child, revealing the deluge of guilt and sorrow he teased in Dreaming of Babylon, Loading Mercury with a Pitchfork, and Watermelon Sugar. You also see shades of agoraphobia like in The Abortion. I wish I could read it without crying.
Gonna start specifying my medium and materials with submissions like a visual artist

Writers with full-time jobs + their creative work, what keeps you going? I have seen many writers drift from their craft under life pressures. Maybe that's okay. Many paths. But those who stay with it, what works?
For me, a feedback group is key for finishing drafts
Have you ever edited a poem/essay/short story with the express hope of publishing in a certain magazine?
Not just trimmed word count, made a theme more overt, etc. But actually tried to match the work to the magazine?
Is this something writers do (to publish in lit mags)?
