3. 2023 – Settlement Data Dispute CBX filed a complaint with the Korea Fair Trade Commission (FTC) — not a lawsuit, which many people confuse. Main Concerns • Lack of transparency in income deductions categorized as “miscellaneous costs.” • Continued use of long contract periods, despite prior regulatory guidance. SM Entertainment’s Response • Maintained that the contracts were not exploitative. • Initially suggested CBX were influenced by a third party (MC Mong) and raised concerns about a possible “double contract,” but later apologized for this claim. • Settlement data was made available for review with the consent of other EXO members, since the joint accounting system included every member’s financial details, including CBX. CBX signed an NDA, but copies of the data were not provided, only on‑site inspection was allowed. Legal Context Under the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act (Article 14), settlement statements should include clear, itemized breakdowns of individual earnings. • A May 2024 amendment further clarified that such data should be provided to artists upon request without delay. CBX’s Position CBX argued that SM uses a pooled accounting system, combining solo, unit, and group revenues, making it difficult to determine individual earnings. • Courts later did not affirm it as unlawful, only that insufficient evidence was presented to prove illegality. Status and Outcome • During the dispute, CBX had not received copies of their settlement data and were limited to on-site inspection. • Regulatory authorities later found no legal violation. • Importantly, this does not confirm that SM’s accounting is definitively correct, only that illegality was not proven under the available evidence. — 4. June 19, 2023 – Agreement Reached CBX and SM reached a revised agreement to resolve the 2023 dispute and ensure continued group activities, as the EXIST comeback was in progress. This agreement reaffirmed that their exclusive contracts remained valid, establishing new terms moving forward. • The original 5-year extension was reduced to 3 years. • CBX would continue participating in EXO group activities under SM. • Solo and sub-unit activities would be managed under their individual label, INB100. • CBX agreed to pay SM 10% of revenue (income before costs), as stipulated in a written agreement. • Reports say Kakao’s distribution rate was verbally promised and agreed to drop from 20% to 5.5%, in exchange for a 10% revenue share. - CBX claims this was a binding condition of the agreement. - SM’s position is that it was not formally guaranteed or contractually enforceable. - This issue remains unresolved and has not been definitively ruled on by a court. The dispute in 2023 was resolved within approximately two weeks. Baekhyun later stated during an Instagram Live that both sides had reached an understanding and revised the agreement, allowing activities to proceed. Following the resolution, preparations for EXO group activities resumed, including albums, fan meetings, and other promotions.

📢 [READ] CBX Contract Dispute Explained: — 1. 2011 – Original Contract • Baekhyun signed a standard 7-year exclusive contract with SM Entertainment in May 2011, along with the members of EXO. The contract period was counted from the group’s first album release. • Shortly after debut, the members reportedly signed an additional 3-year extension, mainly due to overseas promotions. - The clause automatically extends the contract until the required number of albums is released. • SM Entertainment had previously received corrective measures stating that contracts should not exceed 7 years. It was introduced by Korea FTC after earlier SM contract disputes. • Including Bekhyun’s military service hiatus (which pauses the contract), his contract was expected to end in early 2024 — roughly 13 years in total. 2. Late 2022 – 5-Year Pre-Signed Extension (2024–2029) Before his original contract expired, Byun Baekhyun signed a 5-year extension (2024–2029) with SM Entertainment while still enlisted in the military. • Reported pressure: Baekhyun’s side later stated that the renewal was signed under pressure. They claimed he was singled out and told that other members would receive certain benefits only if he signed. • “Sign now, cancel later” claim: His legal team stated he was told, “Sign now; you can cancel it later before the contract activates.” At the time, about one year remained on his original contract, and he was reportedly told changes could be made before January 2024. It was implied that refusing to sign collectively could also pose risks to the group’s stability. • Revision requests: CBX’s legal representative, Lee Jae-hak, stated that contract revisions were requested eight times, but none were accepted. • Settlement data requests: Starting in March 2023, Baekhyun, along with Chen and Xiumin, requested transparent settlement data (“provision”) under their contract and the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act. • CBX stated they made multiple formal requests (commonly cited as seven), but were denied copies. • SM disputed this, stating that the data was made available for on-site inspection, but not for copying. • Termination notice: On June 1, 2023, CBX formally submitted a notice of termination for the extension contract set to begin in 2024, citing lack of settlement transparency. For the most common misinfo being spread by ot6s: •CBX didn't share other members' acctg data to a 3rd party •SM filed the lawsuit FIRST •The lawsuit is about the 10% revenue-sharing agreement, not unpaid IP fees There's so much more, so PLEASE READ: bit.ly/CBXclarificati…

RE:UNION
RE:UNION@R7_UNION·
The situation surrounding Seunghan and RIIZE remains one of the most troubling examples of unresolved artist protection cases in recent years. At its core lies the responsibility of SM Entertainment to defend and safeguard the artists whose careers, well-being, and futures depend on the company’s leadership and integrity. When private photos and personal information from Seunghan’s trainee period were illegally leaked online in 2023, SM Entertainment acknowledged that the materials had been obtained and distributed unlawfully. The company publicly stated that these actions constituted defamation, cybercrime, and other serious violations. SM Entertainment announced that it would pursue strong legal action against those responsible and that there would be no settlement or leniency. Those statements were significant. They carried weight because they represented a promise: a promise that the company would defend its artist and establish clear consequences for those who violated his privacy and dignity. However, since those statements were made, there has been no clear public communication regarding the results of those promised actions. There have been no transparent updates confirming whether lawsuits were filed, whether perpetrators were identified, or whether meaningful legal consequences were pursued. Instead, the situation gradually became defined by silence and uncertainty. When a company publicly promises justice but fails to demonstrate the outcome of that promise, it raises serious questions about accountability. Transparency is essential when artists’ safety and reputations are placed at risk. Without it, trust erodes not only between the company and fans, but also within the environment that artists must depend on for their protection. The situation escalated further when the harassment directed toward Seunghan intensified. Private information continued to circulate, malicious narratives spread online, and intimidation reached an extreme point when large numbers of funeral wreaths were sent wishing death upon the artist. These were not expressions of fandom. They were acts of psychological intimidation. At the center of this situation was a young artist experiencing these events in real time. Being subjected to the mass spread of private materials, relentless public scrutiny, and visual threats such as funeral wreaths would be deeply distressing for anyone. For a teenager at the beginning of his career, such experiences carry an immense emotional and psychological burden. Imagine confronting public humiliation, invasion of privacy, and widespread hostility while the future of your career remains uncertain. Imagine facing the pressure of knowing that the outcome of your situation may be determined not by fairness or justice, but by the loudest and most hostile voices online. No artist should have to endure circumstances like these without unwavering and visible support from the company responsible for their protection. Yet instead of resolving the situation with clarity and firm defense of the artist, the events that followed left many questioning whether that protection was ever fully realized. The handling of the situation allowed harassment and intimidation to influence the narrative surrounding the artist and ultimately contributed to the disruption of the group’s original lineup. This outcome sets a deeply troubling precedent. When harassment campaigns and intimidation tactics appear to shape the trajectory of an artist’s career, it sends a dangerous message that such behavior can succeed. It signals that organized hostility can overpower fairness, dignity, and the well-being of the individuals involved. The consequences extend beyond one individual. The members of RIIZE continue to move forward in an environment overshadowed by a situation that has never been fully resolved. Their careers, teamwork, and artistic development should not be burdened by uncertainty caused by unresolved controversies and unfulfilled promises of protection. RIIZE was introduced to the world as a seven-member team. The chemistry, identity, and creative energy of the group were built on the foundation of those seven individuals working together. That foundation should not be disregarded without addressing the circumstances that led to its disruption. The issue at stake is not merely about the past. It is about accountability, fairness, and the future. SM Entertainment must take meaningful steps to address the unresolved concerns surrounding this situation. We therefore call upon SM Entertainment to: • Provide transparent updates regarding the legal action that was promised following the illegal leaks and defamation • Clarify what investigations were conducted and whether legal consequences were pursued against those responsible • Establish stronger protections against harassment, stalking, privacy violations, and coordinated intimidation campaigns • Prioritize the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of every member of RIIZE • Acknowledge the harm caused by the mishandling of this situation and commit to preventing similar failures in the future In addition, fairness requires that Seunghan be given the opportunity to return to RIIZE if he wishes to do so. Artists deserve agency over their own careers. If Seunghan chooses to continue his journey with the group, that choice should be supported rather than obstructed. At the same time, if he wishes to pursue his individual artistic path through solo activities, that decision should also be respected and supported. These possibilities are not mutually exclusive. Both can coexist when fairness, transparency, and artist autonomy are prioritized. At the heart of this statement lies a simple principle: artists are human beings whose dignity, safety, and futures must be protected. No artist should face harassment alone. No artist should see their career shaped by intimidation. No promise of protection should remain unanswered. Accountability and justice are not optional ideals. They are the foundation of trust between artists, companies, and the communities that support them. Until transparency is provided and meaningful action is taken, the questions surrounding this situation will remain. Artists deserve protection. Artists deserve fairness. Artists deserve dignity. And the commitments made to them must be honored. RIIZE began as seven. Their story, their unity, and their future deserve to be respected and protected accordingly. @SMTOWNGLOBAL RIIZE WILL RISE AGAIN AS SEVEN #SeunghanDeservesJustice #RIIZEDeservesJustice #RIIZEISSEVEN
