It’s time to get serious about Universal Basic Income
AI is coming for our jobs and we need is start designing for a post-AI world
A positive outcome would be a world where basic needs are handled for all humans
It’s the only way to solve for the extreme inequality caused by AI
@AlecMuffett Haha 🤷🏻♂️
Homomorphic - the ability to perform analytics on undecrypted data. My assumption is I’m a victim of autocorrect… but then in our agentic AI world one of my few remaining functions is as a final version editor 🙃
@AlecMuffett You could create a virtual state that guarantees its citizens privacy (by state proxy etc.).
Or …. Some sort of company or ‘association’ that hides everything behind some sort of holomorphic computing. ???
@AlecMuffett Is there a (theoretical) solution (to the general question)??
It seems given the power of state actors, they can know almost anything.
So you could implement privacy guarantees (bit that would only work for the governments you trust) 🤪….
@AlwaysKeepL Not fully accurate of Maslow’s final concept. After engaging with Viktor Frankl, Maslow added self-transcendence beyond self-actualization and rejected a strict hierarchy, noting that meaning could outweigh basic needs. He never represented his model as a pyramid.

@Igor_Buinevici Adding self transcendence as an ultimate goal was influenced by Viktor Frankl - which also resulted in Maslow relaxing his requirement that basic needs must be satisfied first. From some sense of transcendence you may even survive basic needs deprivation.
+ Self-Transcendence Needs:
Near the end of his life, Maslow added one additional layer on top.
This level goes beyond self-actualization, emphasizing the importance of connecting with something beyond oneself, such as spirituality, and contributing to the greater good.
@ESYudkowsky Claude 3 is more like a person.
But how person-like an LLM behaves is mostly a design choice and less a function of how intelligent it is.
Just ask Pi or even Eliza.
web.njit.edu/~ronkowit/eliz…
If you currently use Claude 3 and previously used ChatGPT 4, does it seem to you like Claude 3 has woken up a bit and become a bit more of a person, in the process of getting smarter / improving a bit on generality, relative to GPT 4?
In the long run, AI WILL AUTOMATE YOUR CURRENT JOB.
That doesn't mean there won't be new jobs. Here are some popular job titles from the future
- Human-in-the-loop: Several processes will require a human to complete one part of a task or make a critical decision while AI takes care of the rest.
- AI supervisor - supervises multiple AI agents and processes and ensures everything runs smoothly. These folks will supervise several robots, driverless car fleets, and other autonomous AI devices.
- Scientists - we will have 100-1000x the number we have today. They will primarily invent new techniques and continue to push the boundaries in energy, nanotech, etc. Of course, these individuals will constantly use AI to help with their discoveries.
Some jobs, like sales, acting, and entertainment, are less likely to be disrupted as humans will want other humans in these roles, but all of them will have many AI tools/assistants, so we will need far fewer humans in these professions.
In the age of abundance, it's not clear we will need to work, so there is no need to worry! 😃
Why would you want to work if you don't have to? Instead, you can do what you are passionate about 🤷♀️
@bindureddy “This is …a significant step towards open-source AGI!!”
Yes AGI should be open-source!
But shouldn’t AGI also be XAI?
If so, can XAI be built on transformer LLMs … ıs LIME, SHAP, MoE etc. enough… ? Or is XAI AGI beyond basic LLM architecture?
Or/then what?
Grok-1 open-source- Why this is a huge deal
Grok-1 has decent metrics, though it will need some fine-tuning to make it usable. We at Abacus AI will start working on it and should have an update/release in a few weeks.
The model is too large for the open-source community to iterate on it, but I expect functional quantized versions to be available in the next month.
However, open-sourcing Grok-1 is a massive deal because Elon has officially picked a side, and it's open-source AI!
This is a seminal moment and a significant step towards open-source AGI!!
@erikbryn@bindureddy Perhaps, but isn’t the brain (in the SW arch sense) also, or more so, a combination of general orchestration & a goal seeking / self learning agent.
The brain is a a large pre-trained model that is capable of real time few-short learning
LLMs aren’t quite as versatile as the brain and are definitely not capable of real time learning
AI still has a long way to go before it can match the learning capabilities of the brain

ChatGPT: Here is a very normal image depicting a tranquil suburban street scene during the daytime.
Me: Not bad, but can you go more normal than that?
