@RobbBrunansky Those are good days. So many of our fellow TMS students gave a lot of blood sweat and tears moving books at all hours of the night. Endless party.

John MacArthur was the first preacher I heard use 1st person pronouns. As a 10 yr old we moved to CA & in our first Sunday at GCC, he put himself under the Bible’s authority. Many who only use 2nd person often do so as personal power play.

“A Lion of the Pulpit, Now in Christ’s Presence: The Relentless Expository Passion of John F. MacArthur, Jr., 1939-2025. This essay honors John MacArthur as a great gift to Christ’s church — and to me. To God be the glory. wng.org/opinions/a-lio…

On today's edition of #TheBriefing, I discuss how humans make decisions (the answer isn't as rational as you might think), why hedonic pleasure is a horribly empty rationale for assisted suicide, and the atheism behind Daniel Kahneman's final decision. youtu.be/gC31vVXs-ZQ?fe…

In praise of Jiu Jitsu.
Almost three years ago, I walked into my local jiu jitsu gym for a trial class. I was three months into a post-Covid health journey and needed a change of pace.
I had really let myself go during Covid and I was digging out of a hole. I was also in the midst of the hardest 12 month cycle I’ve ever had in ministry. I was physically unhealthy, emotionally beat down, and mentally overwhelmed.
Jiu jitsu was a game changer for me.
It has challenged me to grow at every level. In the last three years I’ve lost 100lbs, developed greater grit, and developed the posture of a life long student.
I’ve also made some great friends and it’s been my #1 place for evangelistic conversations in our community.
I train 3-4 times a week. It’s what I do on Friday before my afternoon writing hours. I have found that my writing sessions are more productive if I train before them.
Outside of Christ, my family, my inner circle of friends, the church, and writing - jiu jitsu is one of the best things I’ve ever given my time to.
If you are discouraged about your fitness level and looking for a change - consider trying jiu jitsu.
If you feel emotionally burnt out or mentally overwhelmed- give it a try.
Huge shout out to my gym (Corvo) and coaches Tony and Dom. They have set the gold standard of excellence and culture with their gym.
