@z53247946 i know & agree! i’m saying that my prof’s intention might have been to break down the kanji of the word, not the societal meaning but who knows. it’s 100% phrased weirdly & the first half of the question disregards the social nuance of the word

My point is that it describes only female boys' love fans and never “female otaku” in general. I've never seen it in that usage and every Japanese dictionary I consult says it describes female boys' love fandom. I'm pretty sure that if you use the word to a Japanese person that that person is not going to as much as think of “female otaku” in general as a possible interpretation.

@tsukkishimwah i’m familiar w the origins of the phrase and fully agree w u!! this class is fairly surface level outside of research assignments due to the fact that it’s a capstone, so most people in the course are NOT familiar w nuances regarding terms and origins before taking the course

no reason this class should have a final exam, it should be a paper/project but some of you ruined it by cheating with the robots so now we have to make dumb tests like this

@z53247946 i replied to someone else about it but i think my prof was breaking down the meaning of fujoshi itself in japanese (rotten girl) in saying that broadly female otaku can be called fujos but her wording definitely implies that all female otaku=fujoshi when that’s 100% not true

@tsukkishimwah my prof is japanese so i think she was trying to explain the origins of the word itself (referring to “rotten girls” and not specifying BL in the word itself) but i don’t think it translated well in this question since in practice fujoshi isn’t used generally for female otaku lol

@oOcayn_istired there’s other proxies that are very credible but all have their own pros and cons imo. i’ve used buyee bc i’m ok w paying a little extra for convenience and speed but they did recently raise their fee so i cut back on my importing 😭
