Great speech and awesome to have our friend at this year's convention
Justin Amash@justinamash

Thanks to @LPNational for inviting me to deliver a keynote at the Libertarian National Convention in my hometown of Grand Rapids. As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, I spoke about our libertarian heritage, the Constitution under assault, and how we must seize this moment.

Seems to me this was certainly negotiable without an unnecessary war

🚨After receiving a briefing from a Senior TRUMP Administration Official on the status of the Iran negotiations (someone in the know & not just speculating), I can tell you the following: -USA IS NOT GIVING IRANIANS MONEY FOR NOTHING. All speculation and propaganda to the contrary is false. Some hardline elements of Iran’s govt (IRGC) have pushed fake stories & propaganda to try to kill this negotiation. -Iran deal is NOT done (95%, but still haggling over some language). No deal being signed today. May be a few more days before this is done. -Iran will NOT get any money or sanctions relief up front. -Iran must turn over nuclear stockpile to get anything. USA position is that failure to meet deal commitments means Iran gets nothing. -Long term USA objective is preventing Iran from having nuclear weapon. -Initial deal point is to re-establish free flow of commerce by reopening Strait of Hormuz. Deal should have 2 phases: Step 1 - Open Strait of Hormuz. Give world economy breathing room. Iran agrees to give up enriched uranium. Step 2 - Get the nuclear material turned over. Only then can Iran get sanctions relief. Bottom line: goal is to make a deal that lowers costs for Americans, calms world energy markets, and guarantees that Iranians cannot have a nuclear weapon over the long term. We aren’t there yet. Iran takes forever to get you a response on even small things. But we are close although it still could be a few days. “If we get what we are demanding, this is going to be a historic deal,” SAO says. SAO sounds prepared to do no deal at all if all Iran will do is a “bad deal.” SAO admits deal could fall apart yet. But if a deal is reached, SAO expects very senior USA admin officials to take part in a signing ceremony of some sort. Iran has agreed in principle to the framework but there are still a couple points USA isn’t satisfied with. 95% done. But literally changing words sometimes requires days in Iran’s system. Haggling over language. But USA feels like we have a commitment on nuclear stockpile and on opening Strait of Hormuz. If IRAN doesn’t deliver on commitments, they get nothing. “Iran’s ability to project power is a lot more limited than it was two months ago,” SAO says. “Their industrial base for building ballistic missiles has been substantially destroyed.”

What is a Libertarian? •A libertarian believes nobody has the right to infringe on you or your property.  •A libertarian believes that voluntary contracts must be upheld. •A libertarian believes in the free market.  •Libertarians adhere to the principle of Non-aggression, rejecting the initiation of force against their fellowman. •A libertarian believes in peace. •A libertarian believes your rights aren't granted by the government, but exist outside of man-made systems. •A libertarian believes in protecting the rights of the smallest minority on earth, the individual. — Dru Koester, Libertarian candidate for senate district 41, Helena dru4montana.com

Election Day Note: A Congress that does not believe its constituents are watching will not reclaim the war power. A Congress that fears no electoral consequence will not reclaim the purse. A Congress whose members serve longer than the average European monarch ruled will not hold the executive accountable. The instrument of the founders’ republic was a Congress that feared the people who sent it. Restoring that fear — and the trust on the other side of it — is the precondition for everything else.

Taxation is Theft. Period. Sure, there is empirical argument that excessive taxation actually harms inflows to a government but that argument is a consequentialist one for lower taxation. That is NOT the claim I am making. I am saying, taxation is the act of taking what is not yours from someone else. That is theft. It does not matter if the theft is codified as a matter of procedure and voted on by a majority. That does not change the moral basis of the act.

This is absolutely insane. President Trump is currently flying to China with all of the following people to request "deals" with China's President Xi: 1. Elon Musk, Tesla and SpaceX CEO 2. Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO 3. Tim Cook, Apple CEO 4. Larry Fink, BlackRock CEO 5. Stephen Schwarzman, Blackstone CEO 6. Kelly Ortberg, Boeing CEO 7. Brian Sikes, Cargill CEO 8. Jane Fraser, Citigroup CEO 9. Larry Culp, General Electric CEO 10. David Solomon, Goldman Sachs CEO 11. Sanjay Mehrotra, Micron CEO 12. Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm CEO President Trump also says there are "many other" CEOs joining him on the trip who have not yet been disclosed. Never in history has such a trip even remotely near this scale and caliber occurred. This Trump-Xi meeting is far bigger than most realize.

The covert action toolkit under fire after revelations of extra-constitutional actions during the Church committee hearings and reports of 1975-76, have been expanded to include economic instruments that are viewed as "soft" power, but cause much more widespread damage. The substitution thesis posits that regime change objectives never faded after the revelations, rather the foreign policy establishment just exchanged paramilitary activity with primary and secondary sanctions that use financial leverage of extended parties as power.

President Franklin Roosevelt required American citizens to surrender their gold to the Federal Reserve System at $20.67/oz. Then subsequently revalued that confiscated gold to $35/oz, thus harming the people who had savings in order to benefit the treasury. A right that the Constitution had presumed and protected — the right of American citizens to hold gold as money, to demand gold in payment of debts, to possess the physical form of wealth that the founders had specified — was abolished by executive order.

The moral framing around US intervention always involves some oppressed class being harmed by brutal autocrats. While there is a grain of truth to that contention, it is also undeniably true that in order to solve that dilemma, military intervention is certainly NOT the answer. The interventions this century have always (ALWAYS) left the oppressed (women, religious minorities, and the people themselves) in a much worse condition. It has destroyed the infrastructure of progress and left in its wake devastation and chaos. Chaos is the optimal breeding ground for warlords and oppressors.
