Israel has committed genocide, murdered Canadian citizens, brutalized flotilla members and publicly called for certain Canadian “freedoms” to be restricted. I’m not sure why we still have any relations at all.

Canada’s foreign minister Anand confirms that Canadian activists from the flotilla to Gaza experienced “appalling abuse” in Israeli detention, and promises that “those responsible for this egregious abuse must be held accountable.” Accountability requires consequences. Canada must immediately impose meaningful sanctions on the Israeli regime.

We welcome Canada’s decision to join the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Australia and New Zealand in warning businesses not to participate in Israel’s illegal settlement construction projects in occupied Palestine, including the E1 settlement. They warn that businesses may face legal consequences and implicate themselves “in serious breaches of international law.” We celebrate the work of our supporters whose activism directly contributed to this outcome. We have been advocating alongside our partners for Canada to publicly warn that any person or entity involved in E1 expansion will face targeted economic sanctions. This statement opens the door to such an action.
