@MayoOnTheBrain This just happened to me too! We responded to the reviewers that we weren’t going to do that and then the paper was rejected 😂. I agree though it’s super sketchy and we were also surprised we were wrong! We talked a lot about why we could have been wrong in the discussion.

Trying to submit a paper where our hypothesis was wrong (shocking, I know🙀) A reviewer is insisting that we change our hypothesis to what *actually* happened, instead of what we *hypothesized* would happen. Do ppl do this? (yes, pre-reg would avoid this but hindsight is 20/20)

I just got back reviews on a paper where a reviewer said I didn’t pay close enough attention to Barber et al. (2023) but I suggest you didn’t sir, because if you had you would have seen I’m included in that et al. @BarberEcology #reviewer2

@bhjuarez @ChasingMicrobes Same here, I know I lost out on at least one job this way. I was their second choice and the person they went with had EIGHT more years of experience. How can I compete with that?

@ChasingMicrobes A lot of places ended up hiring people that are already at the professor stage it seems, but i have a tiny sample size

The faculty job search season is finally over for me. I applied to 25 positions, got 9 Zoom interviews, but no offers. It has been REAL HARD doing this academic thing while financially supporting my parents at the same time. I am not sure how much more of this I can handle!

@CFCamerer I’m still waiting to hear about a USDA postdoctoral fellowship I applied for in August. I’m now indelible for it because I got a permanent position but yeah, this budget uncertainty has screwed a whole cohort of postdocs out of funding.

Thanks for the news NSF! Maybe part of the problem is fierce competition for research funding. …and politics: eg still have not heard about an Aug 2023 NSF grant application (7 mos) because of budget uncertainty
