@oxinabox_frames I see it as a positive thing, but I know of users (more commonly onlookers) who get frustrated by the convention of naming of variables according to their corresponding symbol in literature. For people coming from outside a topic not knowing what a symbol means is frustrating.

Why did unicode for functions and variables become popular in JuliaLang when it never did in most other languages? The vast majority of languages in use today support this, but it's rarely used. E.g java has supported this since the mid-90s IIRC. (I have my theory with 3 parts)

@ChrisRackauckas I cannot wait to link this tweet on every HN thread with comments complaining about how startup times being an issue will permanently prevent them from using the language.

Coming very soon: a version of DifferentialEquations.jl that fully precompiles the solvers on Vector{Float64}, virtually eliminating the any #julialang #sciml JIT lag. This is what it looks like to use it in a fresh REPL session. Instant run after pasting!

@OxUniMaths While the work itself is pedestrian, the results certainly aren't! Can't wait to sharing them with the world soon...

A popular social media conjecture is that mathematics consists of a series of clever puzzles presented by a crew of witty magicians. To test this, we set our mathematicians a simple question: tell us what you do and why? First up: Jacobus Smit.
