The International - Pines Coore & Crenshaw 2025 Private Bill Coore is 78 years old. Ben Crenshaw is 73. Yet here they are putting out some of the best work of their life. Truly incredible. The Pines sits about 40 minutes from Boston in a beautiful forest, a spectacular setting especially on a fall day. The routing winds through the woods, if there was no golf it would be a gorgeous nature walk on its own. It’s heavily treed, but there is plenty of width to allow for angles. The greens are some of C&C’s boldest work. Extremely contoured, there are definitely some slopes that will be rejecting people…putting and chipping off of greens will be common, but in a fun way. The conditions are perfect. Escalate Golf was patient with the opening and allowed the turf to grow in nicely. The super has it running firm and fast, especially the greens. The tee shots really matter here. The right lines and shot shape will find speed slots or cut off yardage. The bunkering is gorgeous, but also punishing. Some of their deepest bunkers of their careers. The comparisons to Bandon Trails and Old Sandwich will be heard and they are valid, but The Pines stands on its own in that group, just a fabulous golf course that provides an incredible walk and round of golf. An amazing day and an amazing course. Another home run by Coore & Crenshaw.

In defense of template holes: Some GCA “experts” and critics lament the modern use of templates, like this Biarritz I played today. They say they are overused. I argue we need way more…why? Because the vast majority of template courses are private. Most people will never experience them. We need another 15-20 really good public template courses around the country. In every major area a public golfer should be able to find a nice Biarritz, Redan, Eden etc… If we want to grow the appreciation of classic golf architecture, people need access to the styles.

I don't think people understand what's happening in housing market right now. Florida now has 177,00 listings. Highest level on record. Entire Northeast U.S. has 79,000 listings. Lowest level on record. People are leaving Florida. And moving back north. A structural trend that will likely last years, and cause Florida's housing market to decline for an extended period.
