🐨 As I'm not a native English speaker, I worked with songwriters from the US because there were parts I wanted to make sure would work well. Body To Body was originally called Body On Body and it was very sexual. Sort of "I need some body on body", I think you get the idea. It was a sexual song and we could do a sexual song, why not, we're 30yrs old. But we also didn't want to do a song that was sexual for no reason. So we thought of Hand To Hand, the song by Koreana from 1988 Olympics, and we changed it to Body To Body. We wanted an anthem like that.

🐨 There are a lot of times when Jimin and I have diametric views and I thought this song absolutely had to be included, because this was the only song that I thought had the sound that could properly show the kind of choreography and intense performance that we've done that people liked so much. But for Jimin and our vocalists, it was difficult for them because, if you listen to 2.0, there is only one melody for them. "You know how we do do do do do." But to give life to that line is really difficult. The note is really high and the flavor of the language is very difficult. You have to have an understanding of Black music or you have to be from that world to digest/embody that melody. It was written by Charles. And it was difficult for us guys from Korea to digest it and this was the hardest to do in the whole album for our vocalist members, 2.0. And so some of them felt awkward or weren't satisfied with the way they sang it. 🐨 There was a lot of discussions about taking it out right up until the setlist was decided. I think Taehyung felt that way too. I and someone else--who was it?--we said no way. No way. In the end, it worked out this way. It's a relief that what I said turned out to be the case and the members now really like it a lot.

RM shared that “they don’t know ’bout us” was inspired by conversations with Jimin about emotions, perspective, and how people perceive them! 🐨: “Um, ‘they don’t know ’bout us’ is a song that Jimin really checked up on and worked on a lot. Jimin always said that through this session, he really improved a lot. Not just in singing, but also in learning vocals and writing melodies too. Before making this song, me, Jimin, and the songwriters there had worked on another song called ‘Weak.’ While talking about what kind of story we should tell, I brought up the phrase, ‘You make me weak.’ That was what I had in mind. But actually, it was something directed toward you guys. ‘You make me weak.’ It’s something you’d say to someone you love. ‘You always make me weak.’ But that feeling can be both bad and good, kind of like normal emotions. [….] Then Jimin asked me, ‘Hyung, why is it “You make me weak”?’ Why does it make you weak? And I said, because people… they actually don’t know us. They can’t know us. Even I don’t fully know myself. While talking about that, I think Jimin found that idea really interesting. The idea that: ‘People make me weak because they don’t really know me.’ The next day, Jimin and I ended up splitting into different rooms, and I think there, with DOC and some sampling they brought in, they turned it into ‘they don’t know ’bout us.’ If you watch the performance, there are all those eyes and faces appearing on the iPad or tablet screens. So originally, this song actually started as something written for ARMYs, but in the end, it became a really aggressive song directed at people outside who don’t really know us at all.”
