Marc Fogel needs our support. He’s being used as a pawn by the Russian government. I’ve known him and his family for 20 years. He’s a teacher, a father and a husband. He is not a criminal. washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2022…

Last night’s work home on the train - a Black Death thinking quilt looking at the cause of disease, treatment and prevention. Added in some dual coding to make it stick. Thanks to @KKNTeachLearn for the inspiration 👏 #historyteacher

@greg_ashman Aligns with the research from Hattie too. I think it's important to tease out the different types of inquiry learning though, but even with those differences, it's rarely done well.

"If you never go deep and long to produce high-quality work during the school year, kids never understand what they’re capable of doing, and they never develop the passion for the academics that you wish that they would." Great stuff as usual by Ron Berger edutopia.org/article/ron-be…

Some interesting data on atypical drops in students' writing skills at grades 3, 5 and 7 over the last year. Great to have this data so that we can better target what we do in the classroom, esp when we get kids back on campus.

@VillageSchoolH1 @daisychristo at NMM has put out some really useful information on this...blog.nomoremarking.com/progress-in-20… We use NMM for writing standardised assessments and they are brilliant!

@MerytaT That is an awesome principal Mery! How great would it be if they were all like that?

@jo_jahejsa My son’s principal when he was 7 loved kids. He’d play soccer with them EVERY recess no matter what. He’d also visit classrooms often to read aloud or simply observe. He would always wear a clown wig on his reading visits. So to my son he was the fun principal. Priceless!

My 8 year old son just said, without any prompting, that principals just sit at their computer all day in their office and don't get to work with kids. So sad that he has such a bleak view of his school leaders - how do we change this student perception of principals?

@adamstaples Even if you got there, trying to get back would be a nightmare. You would have to be OK knowing you could be stuck there for quite some time and needing months of salary to pay for a flight.

Epic teacher fail! Today's tute was on using ICT to expand learning. I was in a breakout room discussion and when trying to leave, instead ended the meeting for all! Why are those buttons so close together??? Luckily the PSTs @MonashEducation are so committed they all rejoined!
