The Royal College of Surgeons of England @RCSnews have confirmed a £25,000 Robotic-assisted surgery research pump-priming award towards my work with Rolls-Royce UTC @UoN_UTC 🥳👏 This is for adaptation of the COBRA flexible robot to transoral head & neck cancer surgery 🙌❤️ The benefits for cancer patients ultimately is the improved access to areas of the human anatomy difficult to reach with rigid robots and ensures it’s minimally invasive. It’s been fantastic collaborating with Prof Dragos Axinte, Associate Prof Abdelkhalick Mohammad @Abdelkhalick_M and all the Rolls-Royce UTC in manufacturing & on-wing technology team and engineers. It is a unique interface of robotic surgeons and robotic engineers to deliver the future of robotic surgery for patients. It is my privilege to provide my surgical insights and hopefully with larger grants, we can create an adaptation that will be beneficial for multiple specialties including Head & neck surgery, colorectal surgery, cardiothoracic surgery and gastroenterology 🙌❤️
