@OMGTheMess NO ONE ever said we have to replace everything with EVs, it is the people who are against EVs who constantly use difficult machinery to point out "in this case impossible". It's for THAT case, but not 80% of the drives out there. Average DAILY drive in Australia is 42km.

Imagine you’re a wheat farmer and you’ve been waiting for a weather window to bring in the crop. Normally it’s 24/7 on the machines until the job is done. Now imagine you’ve got a ev combine harvester You’ve forked out millions for the harvester but that is just the beginning! You need probably four extra battery sets IF they have swap out batteries AND a massive increase in your power supply to charge these batteries.

@nickp1316 @Peter_Fitz Forklift batteries are Lead-Acid Batteries, the traditional wet cell and standard in 4-wheel counterbalanced forklifts - they act as the WEIGHT. Peter's is Lithium Iron Phosphate, lighter in weight and higher power output. You cant compare them.

@Peter_Fitz Hi Peter I think youre delusional. No battery will last past 5 years. Our forklift batteries are useless after 2 years. Your maths is way off....your battery will need changing min 3 to 4 times.

The problem will be what? Current projections are my battery will last for another decade or so, making it, say, 18 years. At current cost to replace, about $20K. Amortised, my battery cost = $1K a year, and they're also developing ways to rejig disused car batteries to solar.

@Peter_Fitz Hey Peter I work for the biggest Ev dealer in Australia with about 12 other brands when I needed a new company car I asked about using a Ev was told just not viable with amount of Kms I do could get stuck somewhere so got a Hyundai Tucson petrol

I paid yesterday about the same to fill up my car for 480km - the price comes from the 6c I don't get back for the solar feed in. Do you know how stupid you sound?

Cheapest EVs now in Oz about $24K, which compares particularly well with the cost of the petrol ones, on the money you save on fuel - and maintenance. Often discounted is that there is bugger-all maintenance costs, 'cos there aint 1000 things that can go wrong.

This juxtaposition is crazy. Diesel near me just hit $3.59/L - about $280 to fill a Ford Ranger. At the same time, renewables via the grid were supplying my house at 5c/kWh today. At these rates, one Ranger fill-up costs more than charging my EV for a year.
