@BoseUK On the QC Ultra over-ear headphones, can I turn off both Aware and ANC? I know this wasn't possible for the QC45s. Need to replace my old SoundLink IIs but this is a deal-breaker for me 🫠

Mala calidad, mal servicio 😡

@Correos My daughter received a EUR 10 gift from her grandparents in the UK with form CN22 filled out correctly, but we were still required to pay EUR 7.42 for delivery, please can you explain why

@lissijean The idea of a siesta is, apparently, a myth, invented to ensure that agricultural workers did not have the expectation of working during the hottest hours of the day. From what I can tell, they drink a lot of coffee, and just don't sleep.

Serious question for people from Spain… When do you SLEEP? Been here for a week. Dinner at 10pm (sometimes ELEVEN) and at work by 9am. Weekends people in their 40s and 50s out until 3am. Are you vampires? How do you do it? What’s the secret?

@jesslynnrose - Equal parental leave. It's "money where your mouth is" on DEI - Involvement in tech communities (e.g. hosting meetups, regular attendance at <x> conference...). I'm not that community-minded, but the environments that are are just so much more forward-looking.

@johncutlefish Recently I've been reminded how hard it is to separate requirement from implementation. Developing the habit to think in terms of motivations, intent and purpose vs action and specifics is quite counterintuitive to start with. And real life is never as easy as the tutorials...

@johncutlefish My leadership philosophy: As much as I enjoy underdog movies, I'm not about to take that risk here. We're not in the hero business, I'd rather rely on creating an environment where normal people can do great things reliably.

@stubbornella Yes, one of the problems that women in tech have is that the men who try to “mentor” us generally don’t see that the rules of the game are different for us. Learning to assert oneself is still important, but you need to find your own authentic style

A year ago, a manager said I didn’t need to do all the softening I do as a woman in tech… I agreed to try it his way for one year. Absolute disaster. I made it 7 months. And like, everyone got mad at me. So now I’ll go back to giving away credit and uptalk. Vocal fry anyone?

@GergelyOrosz Idk if there's local context to this, but working as a hiring manager in the UK I can safely say that we'd treat candidates from banking with caution. The pay is high but the tech, processes and culture are mostly awful. Plenty of people take salary/title steps down to get out.

“I’m a mid-career dev working at a scaleup. I get paid well, have stock and the work environment is great. Interviewed with an investment bank. They offered DOUBLE my total compensation in cash. What is your advice?” This is your market value. You’d be silly not to take it.

@GergelyOrosz Just as common IME :"I think I'm a genius and deserve promotion but the actual problem is my manager has failed to give me real, constructive feedback about my many and serious failings and complete lack of self-awareness"

"My manager has it out for me: they don't want to promote me." The best thing any manager can do is promote people on their team who are at the next level. It improves morale, reduces attrition & helps the manager look good! With this context: I'd dig deeper into the "why".

@allankellynet @HotCupOfTeaPls @jocrossick @jasongorman What we ship will always be "Good Enough for Today." There will never be "perfect." We have to ship something. That doesn't mean that we don't try to ship something better tomorrow. I have to learn from today's problems before I know what to improve.

@jocrossick I get it, I have had that experience too. Unfortunately I have just as often found myself banging my head against a titanium wall of tenured architects who have absolutely no interest in listening to the fancy consultants who their bosses hired to tell them how to do their jobs.

@variableirony Hugs. Yeah, bit of a flippant comment - I guess my experience of consulting is that I at least got the chance to see the problem and work to fix it, which I found deeply cathartic after being on the other side of the fence and not knowing what the issue was or how to fix it
