🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has just invited Donald Trump to visit Manchester

Shabana Mahmood has been reappointed as Home Secretary @ukhomeoffice.

Let’s bring back hope.

Hard to think of a more damaging start to Burnham’s premiership than giving green light to new oil & gas in N. Sea, if true. It won’t lower bills or lead to greater energy security but will drive an even hotter more dangerous planet #ClimateVandalism bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

#OtD 16 Jul 2008 hundreds of thousands of UK government workers walked out on a two-day strike over pay. While they did win an improved pay offer, the main union, Unison, demoralised and demobilised its membership, while other unions didn't help stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/8795/u…

NEW: Andy Burnham appears to be playing down prospect of a wealth tax *for now* - but doesn't rule it out in future. He tells @GaryLineker podcast: "I don’t want to come in and create new divisions and pitch people one against another. “I’m not going rule things out right now. I do believe we need a greater sense of fairness and people feeling that things are being done in the right way and a fair way. "But at the same time, I don’t want to be perceived as somebody who’s coming in with grudges and agendas and going to just immediately find or demonise one group or create a new way of dividing people." But then he adds: "Decisions to be taken in time, they’re going to be difficult. I’m not going to shy away from that. We are going to have to work quite hard to make sure we can pay our way. “And at some point that might be having to ask for a little more. But those decisions are not for now. They’re for another day.”

🚨 NEW: The Government is now set to raise the state pension age to 68 in 2037 - seven years earlier than originally planned

I’m proud to leave this country in a better shape than I found it.
