Sharing our latest work (@janetyz12 @zhuling_liu) on the effects of psychological distance on public #risk perception and #emotions during the #COVID19pandemic in its early stage. #HealthCommunication tandfonline.com/eprint/I3GYNBP…

Our research suggests that overall, strategic messaging surrounding the #COVID19pandemic should concentrate on promoting cohesiveness by drawing separate individuals closer, such as highlighting more inter-group similarities.

Drawing social distance closer between oneself and others may motivate people to help others. As social distance decreases, people report stronger negative emotions & sympathy, as well as higher risk perception. Thus, support for #COVID19 aid response measures also increases.
