Genuinely confused about amazon offering me these two shipping options. (If I didnt want prime shipping) Are they identical? Is one an unambiguously a better choice than the other? If so, why give me the choice? Or does each one have a situation where it might be preferable.

A while back, I was talking with a friend who'd moved to the US a few years prior At some point, I said something like "we Americans..." and he froze with shock. He asked, "Wait, do you think of me as American?" Without much thought, I said "Of course!" He paused for a while and then said, "Wow. Back home no one would ever refer to a recent immigrant that way. Heck, they wouldn't refer to any immigrant that way, even if they'd lived there for decades" While the US has a lot of problems (many of which are our own making), this moment made me swell with joy and pride for this special place Happy birthday, America. I'm so proud to be the citizen of a country where, if you choose to build your life here and contribute to your community, you can become an American too 🇺🇸

@polyarc_brendan That thing where we programmers sometimes spend two days tracking down what turns out to be one or two misplaced characters is just the best.

Progress in programming is so lumpy. Some days you blast out tons of work. Other nights everything grinds to a halt. Spent two evenings just debugging a one line bug. Was using a vertical field of view angle, when I should have used the horizontal one (render target issue). 🤦‍♂️

@Jyakku Kind of depends on how you define "quality". The pixels were prettier, but they had other problems. It's trade-offs all the way down.

@joeludwig I see, thank you for the insight! Was there a noticeable quality difference to the HQ overlays despite the lack of the functionality you mentioned?

@joeludwig I'm working with OpenVR overlays recently and noticed a concept of "high-quality" overlays that was removed in 2019. Seems like it had to be done, no laser interaction etc, but I can't help but be curious--what was the difference between standard overlays and HQ ones?

@matttwood It’s all on the back of react / end of VGUI. The migration was stalled for many years but now that they’ve shipped the core change improvements are coming along quickly.

@ZPostFacto I just read The Terraformers by @Annaleen where "Blessed" meant your brain was deliberately broken to only allow you to communicate about your job. Maybe that's what the braggart meant.

Describing yourself as "blessed" is really linguistically the laziest form of humblebrag, imo. "[Giant brag]. Yeah, I'm so blessed" Its like following an insult with "bless their heart"
