We kicked off the Language Clubs cohort with an opening session that brought together developers from across Africa, all eager to deepen their skills and contribute to Bitcoin open source development. 🚀 Over the next six weeks, participants will follow either the Python or C++ track, working through exercises, building projects, and sharing weekly progress. Along the way, they’ll learn together in home groups, get support from faculty and chaperones, and stay accountable to the work. It’s the start of a focused journey; one where consistency, curiosity, and collaboration matter.

Another Alpha-go moment

The Q1 2026 Btrust Builders pathway cohorts have officially wrapped, and we couldn’t be more proud of everyone who showed up, put in the work, and came out the other side a stronger builder. Across two pathways, developers from 24 countries spent between 7 and 8 weeks going deeper into Bitcoin’s technical foundations. They worked through Bitcoin's technical infrastructure, from transaction creation and node management to open-source workflows and protocol-level concepts, building the kind of foundational knowledge that turns genuine curiosity into meaningful contribution. This cohort also made history: women represented 34% of the Mastering Bitcoin track, the highest we’ve seen so far. It’s a milestone that reflects our ongoing commitment to making Bitcoin development accessible, inclusive, and representative of the communities it’s meant to serve.

1/ We are sharing additional details regarding our investigation into unauthorized access to GitHub's internal repositories. Yesterday we detected and contained a compromise of an employee device involving a poisoned VS Code extension. We removed the malicious extension version, isolated the endpoint, and began incident response immediately.

A Bitcoin school exists in rural Bugiri that should not be possible. 100+ children. 4 classroom blocks. 22 staff. Paid for almost entirely in sats. The story starts with 34 strangers and a single plane ticket in May 2023. I opened a @geyserfund campaign asking 5.9M sats for a flight to @BTCPrague. Thirty-four people sent it in. I got on the plane. At the Circular Economies booth in Prague, I was challenged: bring Bitcoin home. Use it for the things money is actually for. Not slogans. I went back to Uganda looking for the place that test would land hardest. I found it in Bugiri. An orphanage called @orphansofuganda . 77 children. No electricity. No plates. No toothbrushes. The only school within 10 kilometres — Starlight Elementary — was about to close after a district inspector flagged it below ministry standard. We did not buy the school first. We signed an MOU. Administered it for 18 months. Earned the right to be trusted with it. Then acquired the title. Four classroom blocks went up. Every load of cement was paid for in Bitcoin. Every tile. Every can of paint. The older students who plastered and sanded and carried were paid in sats for their hours on site. A muralist(@dennis_kasagga) moved onto the campus and stayed. @john_osezele’s work is centered on improving accessibility to Bitcoin wallet development through bdk‑dart, which enables Flutter developers to build wallets using @bitcoindevkit’s Rust backend. He is focused on bringing the project to production readiness by improving stability, maintaining compatibility with upstream BDK, and strengthening testing and CI. In addition, he contributes to Rust Payjoin and plans to build a full open-source reference wallet, demonstrating how to create secure, non-custodial Bitcoin applications using modern tooling.

We’re excited to announce the Q1 Btrust Developer Grant recipients, our largest cohort to date. Ten Bitcoin open-source developers have been awarded grants, including six starter grant recipients and four open-source cohort members, including two renewals and two promotions from starter to long-term grants. This cohort also marks a couple of important firsts: support for Cashu development and the introduction of a dedicated research role within the open-source cohort. This builds on our work across the stack, from core protocol development to wallets, privacy tools, and user-facing applications.
