“Slacktivism” gets a bad rap, like it’s a bad habit to break. But it’s often where real change begins. Reading, liking, or sharing a post abt an issue you care abt builds knowledge & sparks conversations. It also creates social permission to talk abt issues we’d otherwise avoid.

Your best giving starts with what you care about. Ask yourself: If I could only give to one thing, what would it be? Start there.

Why do we commit to giving more consistently, only to hesitate when it’s time to act? Totally normal. It’s not a lack of generosity. It’s a lack of clarity. Once people understand why they want to give, the how gets a whole lot easier. You’re more charitable than you think.

My first memory of giving was handing my allowance to my sister when she lost hers. I wouldn’t have called it “charity,” but it taught me something I still believe: giving shapes us. Thinking about what your giving says about you? This is a great read: bit.ly/4icnrD8

When someone asks for a donation, before you say yes or no, ask yourself: 1️⃣Am I charitable in how I live? 2️⃣Is this cause/person meaningful to me? 3️⃣How do I want to use what I already have (my time, talent, treasure & ties) to help? Giving isn’t pressure. It’s self-expression.

When you get engaged with something you actually care about, know a little about, or want to learn about, your confidence changes. That’s how we rebuild trust in the charitable sector, not by standing back and critiquing, but by stepping in and learning through participation. 2/2

Many of us don’t know enough about the causes we care about or how charities actually do their work to feel confident in our giving. So instead of engaging, we hold back. We overthink. We hesitate. The solution isn’t more skepticism, it’s more involvement.

This is one advantage of a donor-advised fund. It makes giving easier by eliminating much of the administration related to it.
