@CaraSpencerSTL I'm listening when they talk about the middle class, but find some things, like racial justice or concern for the working poor, missing from the "top prosecutor's" speech. I disagree vehemently on Palestinian policy and was horrified by her militaristic foreign policy rhetoric.

Like so many Americans, I’ve been inspired by the messages of hope and optimism coming out of this week’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago. History was made last night when Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination. Her voice last night was one of a determined, pragmatic leader with hope for our collective future. A new way forward! Congratulations,@KamalaHarris and @Timwalz!

@AyyeAron @VirvusJ Naturally,as a lawyer, you know the old saying: if the facts are on your side, argue the facts. If you don't know the facts, resort to insults.

@AyyeAron @VirvusJ The police have never been tasked simply with the job of protecting and serving. The history that @VirvusJ is referencing just isn't known in the white community. I could send you to well-referenced books or a PPT I put together if you want to learn.

@AyyeAron @VirvusJ Robert Peele is considered the father of modern policing. His job was to suppress the Irish and later the labor unrest in England. The U.S. combined Peele's policing methods with their home-grown system of slave patrols. American policing remained true to its roots.

@VirvusJ At least with the police chief situation they are forced to spend their own money, instead of the state dictating how we spend ours. And we can see the employment contract in black and white.

@VirvusJ Yes, I agree it's two heads of the same monster. Better to have our mayor, an elected official, in charge and money channeled thru regular governmental checks and balances.

@VirvusJ Virus is right in that the requirements for the Chief are things he would do anyway; it's a sham job really. But his real obligations are between the lines. I'm willing to say--it's bad. While we are busy fighting state takeover, this is another step toward corporate takeover.

@VirvusJ I haven't checked the actual bill but npr reports, "St. Louis would still be responsible for funding its police department under the proposed legislation."

@VirvusJ Under state control in the past, StL still had to fund the police. Is it really different in this bill?

@VirvusJ If the state steals back control, the cops will be that much more obviously an occupying force and a clear obstacle to real public safety.

@Tmann69 Part of the triage might well involve a hard look at what functions can successfully be moved out of the police department. Officers have long said society it's too much on their plate. Time to take that complaint seriously...
