When I worked retail, no one in our mall worked commission (some exc.) but the foreigners who’d come in were suspicious when I went up to talk with them. Friendly = commission in their mind. No I don’t get anything from this but my boss will yell at me if I don’t talk to you

The magic of not working on commission meant it was easy to be real with customers. There were several times I told someone they don’t need something and appreciated the honesty.
