@JudyRGH Just returned from Egypt and the suppression of women is so obvious, not as profound as in Afghanistan but very significant, in too many cases their dress ensures their invisibility. The suppression of woman reflects male insecurity and is a waste of our human potential.

The Married Women Teachers Act 1932 NSW was not repealed until 1949, well after the Depression, 800 married women teachers lost jobs overnight. Too many men fought to keep women at home & out of the teaching profession. Battle for equal pay for equal work not gained til 1963.

I recall 60 years ago, as a 19 year old, I was forced to resign from my state government position because I was marrying. Married women (unless widowed), were not allowed to be employed. Imagine that happening now? It was the unions that gained the rights we now take for granted.
