A great story of missing buoys at sea saved through the @NOCnews partnership with the @metoffice. This really nice blog gives an insight both into the challenges of observing at sea and the importance of marine observations for our weather predictions.

In November 2024, one of our ocean buoys became lost at sea during Storm Bert... Eventually found washed up on a beach in Ireland, but what did we learn from the buoy's unexpected journey? Read our blog post 👇

"Sea levels have risen by 13.4cm in the UK since 1993, compared with a global average of 10.6cm".
Are we as a country ready? We know climate change is happening but do we know what it means for us and our infrastructure?

It's lovely to have RRA Discovery home. Nothing like poking your head out of the window and hearing and seeing a research ship gearing up #oceanscience

Timely therefore that last night the @APPGOcean and @NOCnews hosted a parliamentary reception to mark #WorldOceanDay2023. Without world leading science we cannot address the climate emergency. #OceanActionIsClimateAction

"Happy" #WorldOceanDay everybody. Sea surface temperatures are raging and we are getting closer and closer to the threshold 1.5oC above preindustrial air temperatures. Time to remember the importance of the #Ocean and #OceanScience for a sustainable and safe future for all.

Returning home from the beautiful #Oban with colleagues from @PlymouthMarine. We've been at @SAMSoceannews for the @CLASS_UKRI annual science meeting with my colleagues @NOCnews and @thembauk. Great bunch of folks from the marine research community discussing #ocean #science.

The first individual year at +1.5C will not in itself mean that the "Paris Agreement 1.5C" has been exceeded
HOWEVER, even in the IPCC's very low emissions scenario, long-term warming is more likely than not to exceed 1.5C on average over 2021-2040 (🧵)
