I think every rink should have a “Rink Rat” time. A time slot in the early afternoon after school where it’s open for kids to come out on the ice and have unstructured time to play or work on their game.  You’ll have kids out there of all different ages and abilities and it’s a time to fall in love with the rink and the game. I’ve seen it in places like Minnesota and it leads to great mentorship, kids figuring out how to use the ice on their own, and passion for the game. It can also be profitable for private rinks. As Michael Scott says: “Win, win, win” We talked all about how to develop “RINK RATS” on our latest 10 minute episode.

@HockeyThinkTank 100%. Quincy Youth Arena in MA had $5 stick time for 2 hours when I was growing up. I believe they still do. I’d get dropped off at 12 years old and skate for 2 hours. You would have guys from minor pro down to squirts out there. It was amazing.

@spittinchiclets @Buccigross Big Bucci fan but this is a terrible idea. Shocked he would even suggest this. It would kill many D1 programs. —Regionals whether neutral or on campus need to be moved up so students are not on spring break. That’s a major factor with the attendance issue either way.

Jon Cooper (@CoopersLaw) once told his USHL team to meet him at a field at 6am....he instructed all the coaches not to show up and only left the players with a note at the 50 yard line. 📺: youtu.be/cGJ-RU9-iBA

I searched the crowd for my father, knowing his thoughts were with my mother too. I wanted him to know this gold medal belonged to all of us. As we look ahead to the next Olympics, I'm reminded that behind every athlete is a family whose love & sacrifices make the dream possible.

It's been fun watching the discourse on this today. Something to throw into the conversation: There are tradeoffs and differences in each path. I'm a believer in the college model having lived it. But honestly we get way too caught up in "what path" and we don't talk enough about the "who" of the path. There are programs and coaches in college hockey that do a phenomenal job preparing kids for pro. There are some that don't. There are programs and coaches in the CHL that do a phenomenal job preparing kids for pro. There are some that don't. While I'm a believer in college hockey's model, if I'm an NHL team who invested a draft pick on a kid - I'm way more worried about who their coach is and what role they're playing on the team than if they play in the CHL vs. college. Mike is a great hockey guy and runs a great program in Kitchener. I'd love if my player had the opportunity to go there. There are plenty of programs like that in the CHL and others that aren't. I worked with Nar at Michigan, Schafe at Cornell, and Rico at Miami. All three programs I'd be thrilled to send a player to for developing them into a pro. There's also programs I wouldn't feel comfortable sending a kid to. It also depends on the player. Some would thrive in a CHL environment and may not in a college environment. Some would thrive in a college environment and may not in a CHL environment. And with the rules now, many will do both which I think is a huge value add to a vast majority of players in their development. Who is the coach, what resources does the program invest into development, and what is the player's role on the team? My opinion is those are way more important questions to ask than which path is better.

I’m NCAA alumni and think both leagues are great but “the playing against older players prepares you better for NHL” looks to be a misconception not backed by data/case studies. Appears quickest way to NHL and early/big $ is actually CHL—>Pro.

The hockey world lost a good one today. Burkie recruited and coached so many of us @RPI_Hockey. Our friendship continued long after my playing days with our yearly meet ups in Saratoga, he'll be missed. Rest in Peace Coach. @RPI_WHockey

I’d rather have a team of competitors than a talented team. If your talent competes you’ll win the majority of your games. If your talent doesn’t compete you’ll lose the majority of your games. Teach your teams to compete. The greatest compliment you can be paid as an athlete is “I hated playing against you.”

@chrisfallica @chrisfallica ACC sort of screwed themselves with their tie breaker formula. Had they had something similar to AAC, Miami is in the game controlling their own destiny.

Yes, I went to Miami, but I've backed Georgia to make the 4 team CFP after losing an SEC title game, backed both Texas and Bama to make it two years ago, backed Ohio State to make it in 2014 and Penn State to make it in 2016. I don't care about conference affiliation.

Regardless of how you may feel about Texas, the reality is that NOBODY is going to schedule marquee non-conference games. Why play in a game you could lose when you could schedule Old Dominion, Kennesaw State & Indiana State? This is BAD for the sport.

Alright here we go. I’m giving away a free driver. 30-50mph winds on Pac Dunes. Pouring rain. The green tees (about 6,200 yards). Guess what I shoot & if you’re right you enter to win a free @TaylorMadeGolf Qi35 driver. I’ll send it to you myself.

This is awesome: Former NFL kicker Rodrigo Blankenship is trying to convince NFL teams to give him a chance by performing a weekly series titled “Recreating the biggest kicks” until he gets a tryout. Many NFL teams would benefit from having him on their roster. Who should give him a chance? 🤔

The future is now: The #Giants are making first-round rookie QB Jaxson Dart their starter, per me and @MikeGarafolo. After just a short stint starting and an 0-3 record, Russell Wilson heads to the bench. The Giants had a package of plays for Dart. Now, they’ll unleash it all.
