@Owen0to1 I'm 18 years in, healthy business, dedicated employees... still feel like it might all come crashing down weekly, sometimes daily...

$8,492 in 20 hours between today and Sunday. At the same time, I knocked out $36 k in estimates. Most are already signed. I’ve been working with my head down lately. Fighting rain, putting out fires, and working every waking hour to keep the momentum. Things are great, but I have to ask: When does the feeling that it’s all about to fall apart actually go away?

@benjamincrozat I think they’re procrastinating by building tools and side projects they might have otherwise

Not so long ago, developers were procrastinating by constantly learning new tools. Nowadays, they're procrastinating by constantly switching LLM providers.

@sweatystartup The set up, expectations and rewards have to be laid out early and explicitly. No nuance, no interpretation, no implicit ideas. Family business can be tough when kids are at the mercy of their parents and things are not black and white

I am raising all of my kids with one main north star: They will work for my companies and be great stewards of capital, leaders and decision makers. They'll take them over eventually. What else is the point? All businesses in the not so distant past were family businesses by design. And I think that is great. Make businesses family businesses again!

@jeffrey_way My favorite thing right now is getting excited about tackling all these mundane, boring, anxiety inducing features or bug fixes that I’ve been putting off for months. Not only do I not have to figure them out, but I still get the dopamine hit when ai gets it done for me!

If you haven't had a "wow, that was wildly impressive" moment with AI yet, I don't know how. It's certainly not perfect, and it frequently needs tweaks and refactors, but I've had truly goosebump-worthy results when it practically one shots a new feature.

I’m more confident than ever that 1 person, 1 EA, and a $1000 a month agent/software stack can run $1M a year agency now I didn’t see it last year. Clear to me the writing is on the wall we will see many companies hit $10M ARR with teams that size this decade.

We spent the last several months prepping this Laracasts series - and it's out now! 3 hours of AI techniques, tips, and demystifications for working developers. And I'm so happy to say that it's completely, entirely, unconditionally FREE to watch. laracasts.com/series/leverag…

@jeffrey_way @christophrumpel I've finally dove head first into Claude code yesterday and fixed a list of bugs I was putting off for months. Now I'm searching my notes for more things to fix!

@christophrumpel Using the Ralph technique everyone is screaming about lately. bin/ralph.sh That reads a tasks file I have, it picks an item to work on, implements it, commits, and then repeats. It's incredibly cool.

I now create a bulleted list of tasks and issues to fix. An agent then works through them one at a time, while I take my kids to school. These are *wild* times.

Also - it's really exciting to me. I've started work on tools and projects that either... 1. I never would have made time for in the first place. 2. I'm not smart enough to even attempt.

I personally don’t use TikTok, but I’d also say I don’t watch much long form video anymore, probably because I can get concise, accurate information on precisely what I’m looking for from ChatGPT or Claude. Also, general learning content (outside of Laracasts) just sucks these days it seems. I personally want to learn more about AI workflows and how people are using it, but there’s zero useful video on this subject. It’s all just more “todo list tutorial” level useless crap.

@jasonlbeggs Numbers are down for just about everyone I've spoken to. But I don't think that's due to TikTok. Could be a few reasons. Probably AI is a huge factor. Another reason is saturation. There's endless educational content at this point. It wasn't that way 15 years ago.

I keep hearing that people don't watch long-form educational content anymore because of TikTok. It gets repeated over and over. This makes no sense to me. When I want to sit down and learn something, TikTok is the last place I'd go.

Watching grown adults making real money: 1) standing on a ladder to do $30 an hour work 2) putting themselves or their families in sedans Never made any sense to me. Two easy ways to not get injured and die.

Yo - what do you want for Christmas? Something $200 or less. Can be anything. The weirder the better, if it's something you're genuinely into. (And don't reply with "Laracasts subscription.")

To all of the people who complain they cant afford a house and spend their whole lives yelling we need affordable housing... What is stopping you from packing your bags, moving 7 miles outside of Nashville, and buying this 3 Bed 2 bath house for $400,000? Great neighborhood, .33 acres, safe area. You can afford a house, you just cant afford your dream house.

@benjamincrozat When I was building my first project, I’d help get the kids to bed, then work until 11-12 at night, sometimes going to a coffee shop. I didn’t want to choose work over family, so I did that 3-4 nights a week.

Dad developers. How can you even work at home when you have a kid and a pregnant wife who are always interrupting you? Yes, I have my own office. But it seems like they are mistaking it for a hallway or something.

@sweatystartup It’s stupid - renting, you’re just paying someone else’s mortgage, have the danger of getting kicked out, have to rely on a landlord to fix things, have to ask permission to make changes… the price of these things is suboptimal returns? I’ll take it

Renting a house is a non starter for me. I upgrade my house constantly. I want a sauna installed. An outdoor kitchen added. A garden. Irrigation for the garden. It doesn't matter which one makes more financial sense. I want control of my property.

@dvassallo Are they though? Or are car makers just selling us all this crap at a premium? I don't want any of it and everyone I know would prefer simplicity over technology. Like, give me the land cruisers they get in South Africa

@rossiadam I took a picture of a dust storm on a dry lake bed and sent it to my family group text talking about how the spice harvesters were out that day, and my dad was like “what kind of spice are they harvesting” 😂

Rather than calling them “rare earth minerals” can we just call it “spice”? And rather than saying we need to diversify our spice supply chains, can we just insist that “the spice must flow”?
