@ros_hutchinson Not the majority - the actual reality is they have taken £300 away from pensioners but can claim heating allowance themselves on £91k a year. That will never be morally right!

@BBCBreakfast Why abstain - coward like every other Labour councillor or mp!

'Older people are fearful and they feel abandoned'
Labour MP Rachel Maskell told #BBCBreakfast she is opposed to government plans to scrap automatic winter fuel payments of up to £300 for pensioners and will abstain in a vote by MPs on the issue

@mooramana @MartinSLewis The generation Labour are targeting are proud and hard working people who don’t want to claim what they see as hand outs. Labour are banking on this - pure scum party!

@MartinSLewis I work for a local authority as a welfare rights advisor. The authority has identified all pensioners eligible to claim and has written out to them inviting them to claim and access to the team I’m a part of to claim. To date the take up has been slow… people are proud

Part of the problem with winter fuel payments is the chronic underclaiming of Pension Credit, a key benefit that now triggers entitlement. It's thought 880,000 due it won't get it, and they're the poorest pensioners.
I doubt the awareness raising campaign can have much impact on that (I and others have been shouting about it until we're blue in the face, for years)
It needs proactive one on one contacting of likely candidates, eg those not getting full state pensions.
Yet even that is hard because there are so many scams targeting elderly how do you ensure people trust that it is legit?
I'd be interested in your ideas on how to reach the hard to reach pensioners who may be eligible.

@beesley_cathy Meanwhile all you construction workers, we don’t care about you, you can keep mixing together and catch whatever. We just don’t want our government to do so!

Imagine thinking it was a good idea to party like it was 1999 during lockdown and thousands weren’t dying of covid weekly and people couldn’t visit their dying relatives while you sent out for suitcases of wine…

Rt Hon Nadine Dorries@NadineDorries
How ill-judged of Angela Rayner..utterly adolescent of her – to have thought it was a good idea to party like it's 1999..she's the deputy prime minister..after Labour's announcements..many fear for the future. Me in DM ✍️ read here Source: Mail Online search.app/u9wHqhTXANQa8z…

@Otto_English I am, she was the first PM, whether she did right or wrong is irrelevant - he doesn’t own No. 10 he’s a Tenant and should respect any previous PM despite the politics!

@matt_spriggs Been logged in since 6.30 then kicked out I hate Ticketmaster!
English

We have noticed people attempting to sell tickets on the secondary market since the start of the pre-sale. Please note, tickets can ONLY be resold, at face value, via @Ticketmaster and @Twickets. Tickets sold in breach of the terms and conditions will be canceled by the promoters.

Big policy announcement from #KeirStarmer he's removed portrait of Mrs Thatcher from Downing St study. Tribal and puerile

@Kevin_Maguire @GMB I agree with him, train service in this country, especially the North East is shocking. They have not been given any targets to hit to justify this pay rise.

Tory leadership hopeful Robert Jenrick said on @GMB he wouldn’t have honoured independent review body 5.5% pay awards for 5.5m key workers.

15 Metropolitan Police officers assaulted at the Notting Hill Carnival yesterday. Punched, headbutted, spat at. Sadly predictable. We wish all injured colleagues well and continue to support all officers working at the event. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@PippyBing The only time I have had to queue was when my children were under 18 years old during Summer holidays! Can’t understand everyone else’s frustration.

Am I the only person in the U.K. who doesn’t experience long queues at passport control when I go away on holiday? It’s always exactly the same as before. Queues at airports have become an obsessive talking point for some people.
