My mum (82) from Germany, married my British dad in 1965 & became a UK national. She has a UK passport & has lived in UK since the 80s. Yesterday she got a letter saying she has to apply for settled status or will lose nhs & pension & right to stay. This can't be? She's in bits!

@BettsHelen I’m not sure you would have to give it up your UK citizenship. Your mother is a German citizen which means that you have always been a German or more specifically a dual citizen. You just haven’t actively used one of your citizenships. I think that’s how it works.

@bikerpaul68 @Femi_Sorry I think you can be a dual national if you are German if the other nationality is in the EU. Of course, if I get my German citizenship I will have to give up my uk citizenship which is really tough
