Thanks to David Zimmer for work on @jonathanmasur’s & my amicus brief in support of cert in MSN v. Novartis, drawing on our “Disclosure Puzzles in Patent Law” to explain why the Fed Cir’s approach to disclosure for after-arising technologies is incoherent supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/25/2…

After 30 years in academia, I still love teaching. One thing I’m looking forward to this year: At UChicago, we have what are called Greenberg seminars that meet throughout the year, often at faculty houses. Only twelve students are allowed in each seminar to ensure that they are very participatory. For the Greenberg seminar that I’m doing this year (with my colleague Sarah Konsky), we will read and discuss all of the Federalist Papers, in order, during the course of the year and consider their contemporary relevance. This is something that I’ve always wanted to do, and now I get to do it with my students!

If you're in Chicago in the next month, you shouldn't miss the Caillebotte exhibit @artinstitutechi
The Floor Scrapers are here from Paris, the Skiffs and sailboats are thrilling, and even The Bezique Game is fun, and much more. So glad I wandered in.

#Plagiarism, Copyright, and AI
The authors argue that AI plagiarism isn’t—and shouldn’t be—illegal. But it is still a problem in many contexts, particularly academic work.

With each new executive order, legislative bill or judicial ruling, power in the U.S. government is shifting. A new series called "Battle of the Branches" will examine these changes and highlight research from world-renowned scholars across UChicago. ms.spr.ly/6012syr3A

I chatted with SSRN about moving from physics to law, why I wrote a free patent casebook, and some of my recent research on patent doctrine, AI, and innovation:

@jonathanmasur We've also updated our one-day intro to US IP law, including trade secrets, utility patents, design patents, copyrights & trademarks. It's designed for the 1st day of a longer IP course or a stand-alone module in a separate law, business, or policy class. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

Pleased to announce the 4th ed of @jonathanmasur's and my free patent law casebook. So far it has been adopted at 70+ law schools, and students say they love its problem-centered approach and conceptual clarity. Plus it has saved them a lot of money! patentcasebook.org

OpenAI, the company whose ChatGPT tool helped spark chatbot cheating, wants to embed A.I. in every facet of university life.
Here's what the company told me about its plans to conquer campuses.

Honored to share the Diversity Leadership Award with FCJC Clinical Prof Judith Miller, for teaching a class on Litigating Originalism to a group of ideologically diverse students who engaged honestly and productively across many differences. A true @UChicago experience.

Thanks to @ElenaChachko for conducting this podcast interview about my new book, “Historical Gloss and Foreign Affairs.” Elena’s questions reflect a close reading of the book and are the perfect mix of encouragement and careful scrutiny.

@CJSprigman @JeanneFromer @DSFrancis1 @PatentScholar Even if you want to make money (we did not), you're still better off self-publishing. You can charge $80 on Amazon and keep $50 of it, rather than a publisher charging $300 and you keeping $30. Better for your students, wider adoption. Just cut out the overpriced middleman.

@CJSprigman @JeanneFromer @DSFrancis1 I'd add one thing based on what I learned about the market from publishing a free patent law book with @PatentScholar, inspired by this great (c) book.
