Way into George Rochberg's Symphony 3 (1969) for orchestra with chorus. The performance I have is not amazing, yet Rochberg's music is strikes right through. One of Rochberg's symphonies I know least, and it really is a tremendous work.

Just discovered, for myself, the far-out music of Dane Rudhyar...esp. his Three Melodies (1918-1955!). An inspired musical imagination is at work here, and I am surprised it has taken so long to closely listen -

Schubert's 9th Symphony...again. It just captures a mood. Today was Lorin Maazel. Fantastic 2nd movement in this recording... #schubert#schubertsymphony#ClassicalMusic
Lots and lots of Roger Sessions on the playlist lately...Symphonies 1-5, and the 1958 String Quartet. What I can not find, and would love to hear again, are his Three Chorale Preludes (1924)... #RogerSessions#ModernMusic#AmericanMusic#StringQuartet
Perfect tonic for a Friday: Elliot Carter's Triple Duo...it has been too long since I've heard this magnificent, magisterial work, and it never fails to inspire and motivate. What a masterpiece! #ElliotCarter#TripleDuo#ModernMusic
All Saturday today: Lucio Silla, from my complete Mozart edition with Leopold Hager conducting. What a fine, really exuberant opera this is - I agree with those who call it a masterpiece (which isn't many...) #MozartOpera#LucioSilla#WolfgangAmadeusMozart
Ah ha! Marion Bauer is on the playlist this morning: her lyrically intriguing Viola Sonata (1932). Her work is a reminder to read her Twentieth Century Music, by all accounts a fantastic book... #MarionBauer#ModernMusic#ViolaSonata#morningplaylist
