Probationary Constable Jack Hibbert, 22, has been identified as the second police officer shot during Sunday’s terror attack at Bondi Beach. The officer of just four months was shot in the head and shoulder while trying to take down the two gunmen, suffering the loss of vision in one eye and undergoing multiple surgeries in intensive care. In a statement Hibberts family said "he now faces a long and challenging recovery ahead, with additional surgeries required.” "In the face of a violent and tragic incident, he responded with courage, instinct, and selflessness, continuing to protect and help others whilst injured, until he was physically no longer able to.” Another officer remains in hospital, as NSW Police confirm the alleged gunman is expected to be charged after waking from a coma.
