Congratulations to Joe Palich in Year 9 who was chosen to represent Lancashire County Schools Under 14’s football team against Northumberland in the ESFA Cup. Lancashire won 1-0 in a very close game. Joes represents the school, the district and now his County, well done Joe 👏🏻⚽️

I’m a supporter of any tool that makes our game fairer. But VAR was introduced with two simple, powerful principles: “clear and obvious.” It was never meant to mean searching for minutes on end to find a reason to disallow a goal. It was never meant to freeze the game to pick out a single frame and rule someone offside by an inch. We were told VAR would strengthen referees. Instead, it has made them more hesitant and less authoritative. This weekend, VAR was given an even wider mandate. At the very same meeting, new rules were introduced to reduce time-wasting, yet the biggest source of delay in modern football is VAR itself. I still believe in using technology to make football fairer. But in its current form, VAR risks damaging the flow of the game and the experience of the fans. And without the fans, there is no game.

Corner placing. In 99% of life when a lined area defines something (road lines, parking spot, writing in books, mathematical equations, etc etc etc ad nauseum) then that definition means staying inside the box or area. In Association Football that meant placing the ball clearly and unambiguously inside the quadrant. Now, along with any number of perfectly sound law applied for generations, you can put your tv on and literally see a corner quadrant empty at a corner and the ball so far out of it that it's hard to know whether to laugh or cry. Sometimes basic logic works. If there's a box or line to put something in, that's where it's supposed to go. Whoever decided a shadow of a ball hanging over the ball is frankly... A fucking idiot.

The biggest time-wasters in football now are not the players but some of the officials implementing VAR. Turf Moor confirmed that. Almost three minutes to decide that Anthony was offside. Right decision but a nonsense it took so long to establish. Sort out semi-automated. Almost five minutes to decide that Barnes had handled. Not even sure it was the right decision anyway. The unacceptable, unconscionable amount of time taken damages the game and alienates the fans, without whom there is no game. PGMO has to improve. It claims it is speeding up decision-making and then delivers this desecration of a great football game between Burnley and Brentford with delays. PGMO use of the technology has to be better. And quicker. VAR is here to stay - IFAB underlined that in Cardiff on Saturday - so let’s make it work for the game of football not against. Improve standard of officiating - on-field and at Stockley Park. Invest even more in developing good officials. Speed up the process - and if that means a time limit on decisions then do it. Don’t chase perfection; just prevent injustice. PGMO has forgotten Clear and Obvious only. PGMO has forgotten the game is about passionate match-goers not pedantic, slow-moving law-enforcers. #BURBRE

Stop forcing this level of VAR on us. Offside decisions so tight nobody trusts the tech. You've had years to get it right & failed. Strip it back or bin it off. The game is now about VAR, officials, on-field announcements & Howard Webb's TV show when it should be about football

@FishwickDavid @LancashireCC @LancashireCC wouldn’t entertain covering my cost and said it was a matter for my insurance company. When I asked who insured them they said they “self insure” - easy when you deny responsibility! Absolute charlatans - good on you Dave. 2/2

I've now heard from @LancashireCC about yesterday's pothole disaster & they are kindly offering to reimburse me for the damage. Dear @LancashireCC, please instead use this money to fix the pothole so nobody else suffers the same fate as me & I will cover my own car costs. Regards, Dave

@FishwickDavid @LancashireCC I had a similar issue a few years ago and was fobbed off with some logic that the road had been inspected within the requisite timescale so no liability existed. Mine was a big job that had to go through insurance so up front and knock on expense. 1/2

@BurnleyOfficial In the grand scheme of things his contribution was small, and relatively short. But in amongst that small contribution was something quite unique and magnificent that should be cherished and celebrated for years to come. Please make sure the legacy of “that goal” is a priority.
