We are now closer to the year 2100 than to 1950. Also closer to 2050 than to 2000. Time to start acting like it.

@benedictevans Hard agree. Good point on the unbundling into other platforms, that feels right to me, but it's still a shame there isn't a town hall that isn't filled with bots and bigots emboldened and empowered by a dismantling of reasonable moderation and platform supervision.

@nic_carter @themanbearpigV2 @TraderFrog I think there are more people that care about Cardano in 2024 than Covid. A weird cult of people who’ve invested a slice of their personal brand in it. Nobody else cares a jot.

@themanbearpigV2 @TraderFrog Yeah I think the average person does resent that the US and china manufactured a virus that killed millions and shut the world down for a year and lied about it.

Here's my real talk Trump 2.0 wishlist. Just one man's views. - COVID Nuremberg (most important). At a minimum, what was Fauci's role in GoF research? Ideally, jail time for those responsible. This one cannot be overlooked. - Fix and seal the border. - Full investigation of OCP 2.0. How was DoJ/Fed/FDIC able to weaponize the banks against disfavored causes including crypto? Who was responsible? Prosecution where necessary. - Obviously, stablecoin legalization, market structure bill, overhauling the SEC, allowing legal token issuance. - Restore the US as the unquestioned crypto capital of the planet. This will likely happen if we do the above two things. - End pointless wars like Russia/Ukraine, end funding to Ukraine, allow Israel to win once and for all, new Abraham Accords, force NATO to pay their fair share. - End US involvement in or support for the UN (unless they massively reform and stop coddling terrorists). Completely withdraw from the WHO. Force the UN to disband the UNRWA. Disband or withdraw from any transnational institution that doesn't serve our interests. - End EU harassment of US tech sector. If they try and regulate, fine, and sue our tech companies, respond with equal force, pull all military subsidies etc. - Accelerate AI development. Massive expansion of energy base. Let America be the clear AI winner. End AI safety and all decel cults forever. Unleash the private sector. - Completely eliminate DEI, Wokeism, and all similar such progressive concepts from government and higher ed (withdraw funding from universities that fail to stamp it out). Make it illegal to discriminate on the basis of race or any other identity criterion. I do believe Trump will be more effective this term as he is surrounded only by loyalists who know the cost of supporting him, and he has already been through the ringer. I believe we are on the precipice of a new golden age.

I can't imagine how many of these there are out there, it's pretty to scary to imagine how easy it would be for someone with zero coding knowledge and a hunger to make easy money to not realize that the code is malicious. Stay safe everyone!

If you see something like this on X/YT, and wonder if it's a scam, the answer is yes. In the video, a GenAI avatar instructs you to deploy a contract to the blockchain to 'front run' txns, but it just drains your wallet. This is the scammers ETH address: etherscan.io/address/0x51da…

Time to resurrect this tweet I guess. A year on and having seen two premier league teams docked points for financial impropriety this season, still awfully quiet on the cheats at the top of the table (bit like their stadium most of the season amirite?)
Jordan Harper@jordanharper

It’s a fairytale story really. Nation state with an extensive history of human rights abuses buys club, breaks 100+ financial fair play regulations, wins treble. Real Roy of the Rovers stuff. Lance Armstrong has more sporting integrity than Man City.

@dieworkwear A great (& reasonably well known, so apologies if this is a repeat) example of this is Amsterdam & cycling culture. People assume it was always that way, but it’s down to policy: inhibiting car access, cheap (free to kids) public transport and investing in cycling infrastructure.

culture certainly matters, but often it's a blanket variable that people use to explain social phenomena when they are unaware of historical legacies, institutional structures, and policies that shape the outcome they wish to understand.

cafes are examples of third spaces, but i mostly disagree that this starts with culture. culture can be hard to change, but we can change policies. we should enact policies that will encourage the growth of third spaces (e.g., zoning reform, mixed-use neighborhoods, etc)
Patricia Mou@patriciamou_

the reason Koreans don't need 3rd spaces is because there is already a coffee shop optimized around beauty & slowness on every other block. this is prevalent across all of Asia. i'm concluding that it's the culture that creates this, not the other way around. it we want more of this in America, it starts at culture. and culture starts with grassroots efforts. it starts with us.

Absolutely gutted to hear that @foxtrotmarket and Dom’s have closed, I absolutely loved them both. Feeling for all the staff who presumably found out as abruptly as us customers did today. 🙁 #chicago #chicagofood

@aa_ronronron On top of this, it was also a nudge towards remembering that certain things could only really be done on mobile, and given the weighting of user-base, it would make sense to take advantage of them in UI (for example: quickly taking/uploading a picture).

When people admire fashions of the past, they often bring up issues unrelated to clothes (e.g., respectability, politics, body type). What they're actually admiring are the shapes of these clothes and how they drape. Notice the procession of wonderful shapes here:

NYC, 1930s (colorized) Have you ever felt that the average person dressed better in the past? IMO, the reason has nothing to do with respectability, body shape, or even suits. It has to do with the loss of what I call "shape and drape." 🧵

@nikitabier @paulg That was called Foursquare and there are a lot of reasons we hit a ceiling on consumer growth in the 2012 period. The loyalists loved it, but too many barriers to truly scale.

I've been pitched "yelp but with friends" every week for the last year. I will answer all your DMs at once: Yes, it's a reasonable idea. But no, you shouldn't build it. Let me tell you what will happen: Because it's the first app you've ever built, you'll be inclined to allow reviews for all things—home services, restaurants, shops. And you will justify it to yourself with, "Well, the opportunity is even bigger!" It will take you 2-3 years to realize that no one is using it because [1] users can't remember to use your app when it's not specifically marketed around a vertical (i.e., "restaurant recs from friends") and [2] reviews will be spread out across too many businesses for users to get signal from the app. By that point, it will be too late to verticalize.

@jasonfried I’ve cycled past this place a dozen times. Last time I took a picture to remind me to look up the building and see if it was a school, office or art gallery. Never imagined it was a house, let alone yours! It’s stunning, wish I could afford to make you an offer!

After taking the winter off the market, Chicago's finest modern house is back on. It's a big price relative to the Chicago market at large, but someone who understands what they're buying is going to end up with an exceptional house at an exceptional price. The crappy Chicago housing market plays to your advantage. Building this house today would cost at least 2x what I'm asking for it. And that's before the cost of three contiguous lots, if you could even find them. When I built this house from scratch I thought I'd be in it for life. I certainly built it like that and spared no expense. Every detail considered, every material top notch. Brick, steel, copper, wood, plaster, and glass — simple materials that last. Loads of light, but also plenty of shadows. Privacy to the nines. Commercial construction methods, no corners cut. But after 10 years, life changed, and we find ourselves outside Chicago. So it's time for the next owner to enjoy. Full details here: zillow.com/homedetails/17…

@coinbureau Just saw this 'ad' run before a Coin Bureau video on YouTube. AI-animated Cathie Wood offering an airdrop for ETH holders. Very obviously a phishing scam and I know it's on @YouTube to weed it out, not you guys – but definitely a sign!
