No data I have seen provides evidence of religious revival in the United States. But something is germinating. Every pew was packed for Palm Sunday at St. Dominic's in San Francisco. Last night saw record conversions in our parish. Culture is not amenable to study but it can be felt. And at least in our small community in San Francisco, the Catholic faith is clearly growing stronger. Happy Easter!

c. 100 baptisms in St Dominic’s in San Francisco tonight The most in the parish’s 150 year history Up 35% on last year even (which was also a record) The faith is alive here in San Francisco and if history is anything to go by, what happens in SF, follows on to the rest of the country

@CanesDavid AI is getting better really fast and most of tbe delay of AI taking over probably hindered by existing infrastructure/regulation and how we perceive care should be delivered. The doctors that refuse to work w AI will be replaced very soon

AI IS NOT GOING TO REPLACE DOCTORS ANYTIME SOON There. I said it. If you want to understand why... just look at software engineering. Essentially, AI has dramatically accelerated coding. That may be a slight oversimplification, but for the sake of argument, it's true. AI has automated a large portion of routine implementation work. Yet engineers are still needed, and senior engineers are arguably more valuable. That work is also more intellectually stimulating and demanding. Humans are prized for their taste and creativity. What should be done? What should be done next? So in medicine, it's likely that in the near term (the next 2 decades or so), all of the menial repetitive work we doctors do will be gone. I am working hard to make that a reality. AI will free us up to work on challenging cases. Human interaction will increase. There's also the issue of accountablity, which is even more prominent in medicine than software engineering. A human (likely) needs to stand behind decisions and procedures, taking ultimate responsibility. You know what it's like to be a doctor. Medicine is judgment under uncertainty, prioritization, moral accountability. Bottom line: Using software engineering as the best current stress test for the AI impact on employment (AI has basically solved coding)... it seems more likely than not that AI won't replace doctors for the foreseeable future.
