Eating breakfast. Going to class. Going to work. Showing up to practice. Drinking water. Completing assignments . Getting 7 hours of sleep. Being on time. Cleaning up after yourself. Staying out of trouble. All of this? That’s the bare minimum. And yet society wants us to praise kids just for doing the basics. That’s a problem. This mindset is exactly why so many are struggling when they step into the real world. If we keep rewarding the bare minimum, we’re teaching our teens that it’s enough. But in real life, bare minimum doesn’t cut it not in athletics, not in careers, not in personal growth. We need to stop lowering the bar. Instead, let’s raise expectations and remind young people that they are fully capable of more: consistency, effort, resilience, and self-respect. Holding them accountable isn’t harsh it’s preparation and they need our help.
