Two new publications from BORN are featured in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada (JOGC) Virtual Special Issue on Maternal Mortality in Canada: A 10-year Ontario study highlights concerning inequities in outcomes for Black birthing people—and critical gaps in race-based data. Strengthening how we collect and use this data, in partnership with communities, is essential for more equitable care. Ontario data also show a rise in substance use–related deaths after pregnancy, underscoring the need to extend care beyond the traditional 6-week postpartum period and better support those at risk.
