Now just about every intersection & storefront has someone panning, tents are everywhere, and new shelters are being greenlit like crazy because they can't keep up with demand

@Mysterious13137 @Tablesalt13 I live in a place people make fun of for being a run down shithole and I never seen anybody ever attempt to set up a tent or even build a shelter until 2021-2022. I literally couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Homeless population is about x10 since 2020.

In this Guardian article, a new migrant to Australia complains she is not entitled to welfare. In the same article she says she doesn’t want to give up foreign citizenship to obtain Australian citizenship: “We have ancestral property, houses, land. We’d have to give that up.” Can someone explain how that’s Australia’s problem? If you have “ancestral property, houses and land” in your home country, why should Australian taxpayers be expected to support you? Maybe somebody can explain this to me.

I personally have a ton of trouble sleeping when the lights are on, and they were only ever off for exactly 8 hours. So even without any of that BS happening 8 hours was nigh impossible for me

Some did drugs all night. Some talked to themselves, some had conversations with their friends and shined lights all night long.

If a homeless person is using the library because they have nowhere else to go, and they aren’t bothering anyone, they should be allowed to use that public service like everyone else. Libraries are one of the last public spaces where people can exist without being expected to buy something. Access to warmth, safety, washrooms, internet, knowledge, and human connection shouldn’t depend on whether you have an address. Being homeless is not a crime. Existing in public while poor should not be treated like one either. Full Stop 🛑

@NancyMartin2021 @EmilySeal6 @guyfelicella You had to be on property from 10pm-6am or you would lose your bed. 'Lights out' was 11pm. 'Lights on' was 7am, but the dorms stayed open until 9am. Then at 4pm they would open back up again.

@NancyMartin2021 @EmilySeal6 @guyfelicella Luckily the one I stayed at had a 'common room' which was an old school gym where food was served, but they would watch on the cameras and immediately come bother anyone who looked like they were trying to sleep. Others kicked you out at 8am and wouldn't let you back until 8pm.

@EmilySeal6 @guyfelicella Some nights I would have to endure people smoking meth or crack and tweaking all night long which resulted in me getting no sleep. I didn't ever go to sleep at the library, but I did spend a lot of time there playing games on the Xbox or gaming PCs with my buddies at the shelter.

@EmilySeal6 @guyfelicella Not every homeless shelter allows people to sit around all day, and even less will allow you to sleep during the daytime. The one I stayed at kicked everyone out at 9am. Even if you had a doctor note requiring bed rest, that was only for two hours, 1pm to 3pm.
