It’s often said suicidal men don’t ask for help.
But we found 2/3 middle-aged men who died by suicide had recent service contact, 1/3 in previous week.
We need to make these contacts count, be vigilant, enquire further.

New figures on student suicide published today by @ONS for 2016-23, Eng & Wales. Numbers are higher than previously reported, 160/yr on average. Not because they have actually risen but through better methodology. Student suicide rates remain low compared to gen population. 🧵

It can seem there are too many “campaign days” but #WorldSuicidePreventionDay matters.
First, because the stigma & shame of suicide remains strong in many places.
Second, because for bereaved families, this is a vital day of remembrance.
