40 years since his debut solo album, here’s some appreciation for Howard Hewett. Such a distinct vocalist, expressive and capable of emotional bursts that hit home, plenty of gems in his work. ‘I Commit To Love’ is a gorgeous stepper that y oh can snap up!

There are junctions in soul music where a team of talents come together and produce high art. And then dissipate after burning bright for such a short time. Lou Courtney produced by Jerry Gagavoy. One of the most loved soul LPs in the UK, here is the quartet of singles. Cult hero

Last time I was in hospital, I binged Curb Your Enthusiasm. Then during my recovery I binged The Office (US). This time I’ve started on 30 Rock so that I can binge it during my recovery. I’m tearing through it too fast. What other modern American comedy series are there?

This record is 50 years old. But this run of ballads sounds so sophisticated and haunting that you that timescale feels impossible. The Isley Brothers 70s albums contain many of the greatest ever soul songs but are still under-appreciated.

Chapter 8’s ‘This Love’s For Real’ LP is 40 years old. How can this be?? Still has one of the best 4 track runs of any album ever. Cult UK Classic.

Album of the day. You'd have to be a true R&B enthusiast to know Adriana Evans and her 1997 self-titled debut album. One of the overlooked artists to emerge during the "neo-soul" boom, Evans truly fit the bill of a singer's singer with a pristine, jazz-inflected voice that echoed the sophistication and verve of female soul singers from the mid-to-late 1970s. She and producer Dred Scott produced a sound that was distinctly classic and modern, one that mostly married live instrumentation with uptown hip hop sensibilities: elegant strings, striking woodwinds and brass, and rugged, hearty percussion work. Somehow, none of it sounds like homages to any past influences either, thanks in part to Evans' pure voice and the breezy production that anchors the set. Why an album that effortlessly rode into different lanes is largely unknown and underacknowledged by the masses speaks to the meager promotion the now-defunct Loud Records gave it. Already something of an anomaly on a hip hop-based label, Loud didn't know how to market Evans' boundless, grown-up flavor alongside the street-centric tastes that raged on Black radio at the time. It's quite a shame, as it still holds up far better than several praised R&B releases from that time.

The new @DJ_Indications album. Just head and shoulder above any else around at the moment. Strings and horns with tight vocals and gusto. Love them so much. Get the UK tour tickets- they’re superb live. Revives my faith in new soul music.

Been after this for ages on 45, with the equally amazing ‘Come To Me’ in the flip. Walter Jackson, The Lord of Deep Soul. A voice beyond this mortal coil.
