Yes hindsight and yes cap space but I'd much rather have just kept Patrick Marleau for one more year if it meant getting Seth Jarvis

@LeafsUpdates21 There is no way you trade two future 1's when you know you are about to lose your 2nd leading scorer. The management is completely incompetent.

Top-5 pick would be great, don’t get me wrong. BUT it also means we lose full control of both 2027 and 2028 1st rounders instead of just one - in a time of little clarity on the future of the team nonetheless. What if 34 asks out? Really difficult situation.

The Leafs aren’t close to being a playoff team Maccelli, McMann, and Roy brought good value for what they got paid. It’s unlikely the Leafs will replace that this summer It’s not going to be easy to improve

@NightShiftMD It's the desperation the organization always gives out. Team is always all in or all out and management not courage's to make tough choices early. Could have moved Bozak and JVR for lots, but a meaningless playoffs was more important. Marner and Hyman should have been gone too

Explain to me why there is a #Leafs discount to every player they trade and a premium to every player they acquire. This spans several GMs over a long period of time. It's not just a Tre or Dubas thing.

I feel as Leafs fans we're really underestimating how significant not having Berube coach this team next season will have on the team. A better system that suits the players more will have a positive effect.

@leaffan3491 Yep we are aware. Very worrisome if this is the actual team and level they are at. Cannot really rebuild until they have their picks back so could just add more years of suffering. Have to hope the team is more like old years and keeping pick helps right now.

I assume 99% of Leaf fans know this, but if they fall to bottom 5 we will have to suffer through two seasons with an unprotected 1st They don’t “get the pick back”. It gets kicked down the road. It could be worse

@CanadasLeafs Can't get players that we need by trades or free agency. Need high character players from the top of draft. We spent a decade wasting them for shitty players to make runs that never happened. Need a complete re-build, but nearly impossible to do without your own picks.

I go back and forth on this issue and assuming both are healthy, I am with MJ. This team currently needs a bonafide 1D that can QB the PP. They need to inject much more speed into the lineup (and it goes without saying, they need a coach, not coaching from an 90's playbook). 3/4

#LeafsNation is still divided in two (not on Berube and Treliving), but on the direction of the team in general. I think the one thing everyone agrees on, is that you need players willing to go through a wall to win, where we disagree on, how to prioritize that ideal. 1/4

@tavkniesnythews Will be very difficult to crash that far down. Worse case would be to finish 6th - 10th and give the pick to Boston. I will be hopping for this mini miracle but Leafs have a habit of never helping themselves.

The leafs have a real shot at retaining their pick and it should be their priority from here on out. Getting that top pick would change the mood amongst the fan base. I bet they sell out every home game next year if they get their hands on a stud. Would change the mood amongst this hungry fan base.

@mariezo34 I don't know how you can rebuild without your picks in the NHL nowadays. It's getting close to the end of this era, but without guys playing at top level cannot get much in return. Matthews, Reilly and others feel like they are on there last run with the team next year.

@jrow1313 Not having our picks is devastating, but it can’t stop the team from picking the right path. They do have valuable assets, just not the ones fans want to discuss moving. You will cause more long-term damage by trying to keep this thing on life support.

For those of you on team retool, how exactly are you achieving that goal? They don’t have the assets to move for immediate help. They’ll be at the mercy of free agency. An underwhelming class where apparently no one wants to come to Toronto. It’s rebuild time.

@MapleLeaves34 The Marner mess is all on Dubas and that horrific contract. Everything else can be blamed on Treliving.

Brad Treliving came to Toronto, his first summer Marner didnt have a NTC kicking in until July 1st Never moved him. Lost him for nothing Never replaced his production or made any significant move Leafs miss playoffs Now, he failed to negotiate trades to retain picks/prospects

@BigHeadLeafs_ Better then letting him walk for basically nothing. If Laughton is not gone too then that is a waste. Disaster job for two years now for Leafs. All management and coach need to be long gone.

If Treliving doesn’t make another trade by the end of the day, is this trade deadline worse than last years for the Leafs?
