@TheCiderShedPod I think the opposite! I think we are in for some rollicking Odd Couple banter and good times. The scene with Kate and Brian meeting weird Harry was one of the best moments this year.

This is a false dichotomies: “The entire controversy seems to illustrate a sea change in teaching, from an era when professors set the bar and expected the class to meet it, to the current more supportive, student-centered approach.” nytimes.com/2022/10/03/us/…

I love this thread. To me, the NYT article failed to acknowledge that college students are adults. Young adults, primarily... but still adults who deserve the respect of autonomy over paternalism. I would love to never see the phrase "weed-out class" ever again.

@Jessifer I think the key quote in that article was the student who defended the professor by saying “this is a weed out class.” Maybe students are just tired of that academic model.

It is possible to challenge students without traumatizing them. It is possible for a course to be “hard” and also flexible, accessible, joyful, supportive, not arbitrary or cruel, student-centered, etc.

Okay, I just added a corollary to the Bechdel test: Two men talking to each other about the female protagonist of an Alice Munro story in a screenplay structured on a Jane Austen novel = pass. #FireIsland #BechdelTest

BREAKING: President Biden is looking at different options to forgive most, if not all, federal student loan debt, per @CBSNews. The move could affect more than 43 million borrowers who hold more than $1.6 trillion in federal student loan debt.
