I'm pleased to announce the first release of QEMU's very first official Python package, qemu.qmp! pypi.org/project/qemu.q… This is version v0.0.1, and there's still a few things to iron out before we tag a stable release, but if you're curious, I'd love to hear your feedback!

Which, hey! I'm learning how to package things for Fedora. Here's a long Bugzilla thread where I leapt first and looked later: bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?i… But, I think it's just about done now. Thanks Kashyap, Maxwell, Miro, and Cole.

Preparing for the v0.0.2 release of QEMU's standalone QMP library. Nothing fancy, just some minor cleanups and getting things in order for Fedora's downstream packaged version. gitlab.com/qemu-project/p…

Uh, uh, uhhh! It's going OK, but it's harder than I thought. I think I'm closing in on something everyone's mostly happy with. And then maybe I can actually think about something else besides this package for a change!

OK, so I figured out how to manage packages on GitLab and PyPI fairly well. Now to learn how to package qemu.qmp for ... Fedora. ... I have never once in my life actually written a specfile, so this is going to be fun.

I see that this is a highly searched for bot phrase. Oops. If you're interested, just please communicate to me that you understand this is a tiny, one-person open source project. Would be happiest with someone I know, or someone who has done work for F/OSS before.

I need a vector logo graphic for pypi.org/project/qemu.q… - I'm willing to pay a (small-ish, out of my own pocket) commission. (Copyright and license TBD, but it'll be F/OSS.) Uhh... anyone have ideas for what it should be? An Emu with a forked tongue? 😅

@Gankra_ Generally, you'll get great performance when using a hardware accelerator, but that's usually only available for x86-on-x86 or arm-on-arm, etc. For mismatched host/guest, you'll be using the software implementation (TCG) and support and quality varies from arch to arch there.

so cross-rs (github.com/cross-rs/cross) has some vague warnings about qemu not liking threads, and so it has to run tests in serial, and if you spawn your own threads in tests things might break but people use qemu to emulate full OSes right? how is that possibly congruent?

I wonder if there's a Python library for printing the current time in Swatch internet time. Maybe I'll start having all of my Python loggers use @‍beat time by default from now on.

Check out the docs on the PyPI page for more info, but I'm happy to chat about it and answer questions if you have any :~)

It can be used to talk to QEMU[+KVM], QEMU Guest Agent, the QEMU Storage Daemon, or anything else that speaks QMP.

@frozencemetery Seems like a medical setting asking you to mask up wouldn't be that controversial, but... *rubs temples*
