@gravbeast but the intellectual experience would've been very similar: they were staring at "ones" and "zeros" and interpreting the code in their head.

@gravbeast but the actual representation was hole punches. wasn't hex, wasn't assembler, but also wasn't the numerals "1" and "0", it was holes...

@gravbeast they laid long strips of "binary" machine instructions out on the floor and patched the code by hand...
