Thanks for following, I love you all! Here's a nice wholesome image for you before normal business resumes. Some kind of party in a hotel, early seventies. That's me, little fella with gold hat. My mum next to me looking like she's had a sherry or two. And dad with the beard grinning at the camera.

I have my doubts, architecturally, as to whether 'this', whatever it is, is even situated in Ireland. These unelected charlatans really do think Irish people are stupid ...

Delighted @ProgressIreland played a part in this. Thousands of small homes will soon be popping up all over the country. More options for renters and lower rents for everyone. And for homeowners, help with the bills.

Two criminals with a combined 365 previous convictions have been jailed for seven and a half years for a "distressing" and "gratuitously violent" robbery, during which the victim was falsely imprisoned, strangled and thrown headfirst onto LUAS tracks. courtsnewsireland.ie/pair-with-comb…

@RuthCan75563366 Lavins used to own that pub on the corner, along with a terrace of small houses on May Lane. Next was 'The Cottage' 6 May Lane, built by Jameson's in the mid 1920s.

Update, I have located a photo of the Advocate and adjacent premises now part of the King's Building, see below. The photo is from 1988 and appeared in the Irish Independent on 12 February of that year accompanying an advertisement for sale of the pub premises.

A Wide Street Commissioners map showing the area of 152-55 Church Street, Dublin, Ireland now occupied by the King's Building (image of this building below, via Dreamstime.com - click on images to enlarge). The area on the opposite side of May Lane is now the Law Library annexe 145-151 Church Street (the numbering of Church Street seems to have changed slightly over the years). The map must be from fairly early in the 19th century since for most of the 19th century 152-55 was largely occupied by the Jeffers family who ran a pub and hostelry ('Jeffers' Great Rooms') there. Many of the successful businessmen in the vicinity of the Four Courts had sons who went into the law, and there are still Jeffers in the legal profession today. Perhaps they are related? Later, in the 20th century, after the Jeffers family had moved on, there was a pub called 'The Advocate' on the corner of this site next to May Lane. I haven't yet managed to obtain a photo of the exterior of this pub, but if anyone has one I would be very grateful for a copy. It will be seen that the freeholder of this site was the Dean and Chapter of Christchurch, which for many centuries owned the freehold of a lot of property in the area, including portion of King's Inns Park. I found the Wide Streets Commissioners map on Europeana, which has many other maps of areas in Dublin. You can zoom in on it here: europeana.eu/en/item/615/_7… Hoping to share some more of the history of this block later this week.
