@ErikLambert1 Barring a 180 degree turnaround, Dayo/Jarrett/Edwards are gone. Sweat seems safe especially because he’s their best pass rusher and they drafted no edges this year to put in place for 2027. Jaylon can show last year performance was mostly injury related. So both likely back.

@BillTZimmerman They should bring in someone now like Cam Jordan. If Dayo/Turner look healthy and play better than expected so be it. But it’s 1 thing to expect a jump from Booker but another to expect those two coming off major injury to be difference makers given their 2025 play pre injury.

@BillTZimmerman Once went BPA which turned out to be the S need at 25, getting any edge of potential impact was going to require a trade up on Day 2. The FA edge market was too rich for them this year. Next year with Dayo, Jarrett and Edwards, etc off the books $ should be less of an issue.

The Bears certainly seemed to dislike the DL in this draft class which I think is a totally fair conclusion. It just makes the free agency approach to the DL even more puzzling.
Zack Pearson@Zack_Pearson

Yes, the #Bears had Colton Hood high on their board. He was 100% an option at 25 if Thieneman wasn’t there.

With free agency and the draft behind us, it’s a good time to take a stab at what the Chicago Bears’ 53-man roster will look like. Check it out and tell me what I got wrong 👇

@usaydkoshul Ben may go get his RB for his offense with Swift’s contract done and getting a G to groom behind Thuney/Jackson. Also need Ozzy ready to be the LT. But 2027 should line up as getting upgrades to the DL room with Dexter deal expiring and easy outs on the Dayo/Jarrett contracts.

So that means there is no excuse for Ryan Poles to finally figure it out at edge rusher next year. At some point, the board has to fall the way the #Bears like it.
Jacob Infante@jacobinfante24

Good news for the #Bears: outside of the obvious Colin Simmons and Dylan Stewart, the 2027 draft has plenty of DL talent with starting upside. I'm sure there are a few guys in that Day 2 range I haven't gotten to watching yet. But I'm really impressed with the early returns.

@DhruvKoul Once they didn’t trade up, the run on edges in the 2nd + 3rd rounds ended. Crawford and Height were the only edges picked between 56-91. And their grades on the edges obviously didn’t warrant picking them ahead of the other positions. Would love to see Cam Jordan added.

It's only "best available" if it's someone they've heard of while consuming "consensus" content. The Bears added players much more likely to positively impact their 2026 season than any DL player available when they picked earlier in the draft.
Brad Robinson@bradrobinson8

An awful lot of folks who preach best available over need in the NFL draft are really mad the Bears didn't draft an edge... even though they were all gone by the time 57 rolled around. And none of those guys were worth trading up for...

@ErikLambert1 If Jacas/Young were there likely go edge but with Hardy have 8 locks on DL and keep 9/10. So room for Cam Jordan (?) and one of Lynch/Street. Can move on from Dayo + Jarrett after 2026 barring huge turnaround. If Ozzy is healthy, DL will be THE 2027 focus then RB + depth.

Yeah. They’re in good shape. My guess is they sign a vet DL and let it ride.

@ErikLambert1 The Secondary Room and LB room are stacked Erik !! The defense will be fine.

@GBraggsJr23 Looks like they plan to give those guys another chance. If it doesn’t work, they move on from Dayo and Jarrett. Counting on the secondary to be the strength of the defense if the 2 top Cb stay healthy to go with the safety upgrades. They also think LB will be better with Bush.

@GBraggsJr23 I agree would have liked DL to be addressed aggressively but they didn’t have the resources they had last year (though could’ve created room with restructures) and they did make major investments last year with a 2nd round pick (Turner) and in FA (Dayo, Jarrett).

Here's my issue: One year ago, the Bears had a clear problem across their offensive line. They proceeded to trade for Joe Thuney, Jonah Jackson, sign Drew Dalman, and draft Ozzy Trapilo plus Luke Newman. This year, the Bears have a clear problem across their defensive line. They have proceeded to add Neville Gallimore, James Lynch, and Kentavius Street. Day 3 in the draft still to go. I assumed they would follow the same process on their defensive line this year that they did on their offensive line last year. This defense was one of the worst stopping the run and getting to the passer last year. Still so many questions. That being said... In Ben We Trust.

@ErikLambert1 Louis does have a lot of versatility too so maybe in Round 4 DA would be on board with that pick?

@dabearsblog If they can count on Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon to remain healthy, the secondary could be a major strength with the adds at safety. Hopefully Stevenson plays big in a contract year. Like what they did at LB with Bush and Jackson. DL could’ve used help though.

The Bears had 35 sacks in the regular season last year. BUT they had 5 in two postseason games. They allowed 134.5 yards rushing in regular season. That came down to 105 in postseason. The DL will be the 2026 team’s most significant liability. But they finished very strong.

@ErikLambert1 DT was a home run pick and really like grabbing their top C. But TE3 and specialist with next 2 picks over DL/CB? Definitely trust in Ben but the defense needed help. They did nothing at edge in FA. Hard to run out the same group from 2025.

I know the risk I'm taking by doing this again, but there are STILL some interesting DL options for the #Bears today. Gracen Halton Kaleb Proctor Zane Durant Zxavian Harris Darrell Jackson Landon Robinson Joshua Josephs Dani Dennis-Sutton Nadame Tucker Mason Reiger

If Freeling is there, he's the pick. Checks every box Ben wants.
Adam Hoge@AdamHoge

My top targets at No. 25 at each of the #Bears’ biggest positions of need (in the order I’d take them if they were all available): OT Monroe Freeling, Georgia Edge Akheem Mesidor, Miami S Dillon Thieneman, Oregon DT Peter Woods, Clemson CB Jermod McCoy, Tennessee Thinking 1-2 will still be there.

@IrishBearsShow Parker—they’ll need a much better consistent pass rush to make up for the expected turnover regression. He’s solid vs the run too which was another weakness on defense. If Ben/OL coach are convinced Lomu is a long term LT answer, hard to argue that pick.

If the Bears stay at 25 the players that have been linked recently to the Bears has been: - TJ Parker - Caleb Lomu - Chris Johnson - Emmanuel McNeil Warren - Zion Young Which would you prefer?

@ErikLambert1 Parker was talked about being top 10 going into the 2025 season. Wasn’t as good as in 2024 but the whole team was down last year. He would have a great opportunity to develop in a 3 man rotation with Sweat and Booker. Can’t count on Dayo and have to juice up pass rush.

@DhruvKoul If they go OT, have to trust evaluation of Ben/OL coach. Finding solid LT could really make this an offense with no holes. Plus doesn’t seem likely there will be a slam dunk DL at 25. Could get behind a CB who could be a day 1 starter. Hard to go WR with so many needs.

@Kirsten_Tanis1 When Boyd returns this week that opens up Assad or Rea to strengthen the RHP in the bullpen. And hopefully when Maton returns his knee is ok so he’s back pitching at a high level.

I’m convinced Tito’s superior decision making is the only reason the Reds are in first place in the NL Central. That and a lot of luck Cubs looking good here, and that’s down Horton (outside of one start) and before PCA, Suzuki & Bregman have really gotten their bats going Puts April in perspective. Some tough losses early on, but the winning streak has helped right the ship

Team hitting and pitching underlying data through the first ~15% of the 2026 MLB season. -Yankees, Braves, Cubs, and Dodgers are good -Reds, Athletics, White Sox, and Royals are struggling -Phillies, Nationals, Astros, Cardinals are ... chaos?
