At tonight's board meeting, the board highlighted JTSD second graders who raised funds for the school, Nixa bus driver Joe Bastick for his recent actions helping a citizen in need, JROTC program's drone team, and Nixa U members for their work on Portrait of an Eagle.

Second graders have been learning about the different states of matter. They are using that lesson to transform crayons from their original shape to new ones while maintaining their properties and selling them at their farmer's market.

WHAT’S THAT SOUND?! 🤯 Students in fourth are exploring sound energy. They have explored how sound moves using slinkies, instruments and tuning forks. Students observed how sound waves sound different depending on the object being used.

Lots happening in 2nd! Students practiced their estimation skills by categorizing sizes of different produce from the garden. They also observed different properties of cookie ingredients and how they change when baked. They’re becoming well rounded scientists!

To help students learn decimals and place values, the 5th grade teachers at JTSD brought back an old lesson. Most kids have eaten at a restaurant like Steak ’n Shake. So the teachers thought, what better way to make learning about money engaging than to bring in a real menu?

JTSD second graders in Jacey Suda’s class used worms to think like a scientist. 🧑‍🔬 Students learned about the world around them by creating a testable model of their worm wonder and created a scientific claim to test their thoughts. 🪱

Fifth graders got hands on with the lunch room leftovers…trash that is! 🗑️🥪🥤 They made observations of the properties of materials in the trash to identify materials and decide how to sort them into categories. It was a messy way to learn about properties of matter!

Fourth graders in Mrs. Dick's class explored mechanical energy and how push, friction, shape, and an inclined plane affected the speed of playground balls rolling down a ramp. 🏈⚽#STEAMazing

Our Chartwells District Chef spoke to our fifth graders during their program Discovery Kitchen. This month is focused on Power Up - finding healthy ways to add some energy into our meals. Students ate Power Up bites and learned how to make a simple yet delicious snack.

JTSD second graders in Sarah Holman's class studied worms to kick off their Wonder Week. 🪱 Students observed worm behavior, handled the worms, made sketches, and asked questions to lead their exploration. 🔎

JTSD hosted the @MissouriState #BearsTeach program today. This initiative looks to recruit students interested in the teaching profession to address the teacher shortage in Missouri. Thanks for joining the fun today! Excited for the future bears!

Our fourth grade Olympians are learning about the art of sailing. ⛵️Learning the ins and outs, the history, and the science behind sailing. They’re engineering boats and improving their designs throughout June. #STEAMazing
