The desire to work for the benefit of humanity is laudable, but it is misplaced. The prophet Saint David says: first, "turn away from evil," and then "do good" (Ps. 33:15).
For today's people, things are going topsy-turvy. Everyone wants, in words, to work for the benefit of their neighbours, yet they care very little about the fact that they must first avoid evil themselves before taking care of others. The broad ideas of the younger generation about great activities for the benefit of all mankind are similar to those of someone who, without completing his course at the gymnasium, dreamed that he could be a professor and a great mentor at the university. However, to think that if we cannot move the whole of humanity forward, then it is not worth working at all, is the other extreme. Every Christian is obliged to work to the best of his ability and according to his position for the benefit of others, ensuring all this is done on time and in order, as mentioned above, so that the success of our labours is commended to God and His holy will.
