Alternative headline:
"Underinvestment in school/childcare infrastructure, work protections, and public health measures forces parents to send sick kids to school so they don't lose their jobs, homes, or health insurance dragging the pandemic out & causing needless death"

“Parents ignore symptoms and don’t get their kid tested because they don’t want to know. If they know they have to do something about it. They’ll load sick kids up with medicine and send them to school” thecut.io/3laO5jO

Breaking News: The WHO approved the first ever malaria vaccine, which could save tens of thousands of children in sub-Saharan Africa. The quest for this vaccine has been underway for a hundred years, a WHO official said, and is a "historic event." nyti.ms/3oxUgAy

Ah, to be as confidently wrong as a Silicon Valley software engineer. The author of this viral thread is amazed that a vaccine study found similar rates of COVID-like illness in vax & unvax. Almost like having COVID symptoms is a prerequisite for entry into a TEST NEGATIVE STUDY.
Ben@USMortality
So, based on the study sample of 41,552, what if we only look at how many people actually got sick? If we actually look at how many people were diagnosed by their physician with CLI, we can see that all three groups were diagnosed with about the same rate... Odd right?

Incidentally, this is a great example of the problem of establishing causal consistency in settings with interference — we cannot ask “what is the effect of vaccines” and get a simple answer because other people’s choices affect our risk
Dr Ellie Murray, ScD@EpiEllie
Excellent article from @jfeldman_epi on break-through infections, boosters, and why the simple answer is misleading.

Well, if you’re in the US & want a booster, you can get one now.
Vaccines are one of the best inventions humanity has ever made, IMO.
But don’t be surprised when boosting the 55% of Americans who are fully vaccinated doesn’t end the pandemic.

My 12-year-old had appendicitis. The ER was overwhelmed with unvaccinated Covid patients and we had to wait 6+ hours. While waiting, his appendix ruptured and had to spend 5 days in hospital; just got hmo bill of $5000. So yeah, your decision to not vaccinate does affect others.
