“Theology is always done for particular times and places and addressed to a specific audience. This is true whether theologians acknowledge it or not. Although God is the intended subject of theology, God does not do theology. Human beings do theology.” – James Cone

@tweetraychang Not just young people.. Lack of Christ-likeness and Jesus following. Too many assholes preaching the gospel. Pastors who think they are never wrong because of expository preaching. Churches that lack humility from the pulpit and in the pews. No thanks.

What are the things that keep young people engaged in church? What is driving them away from the church?

@stewartdantec What I find missed by some of the comments is that the opposite of certainty is not uncertainty, but it’s faith. If we are certain, why would we need faith?

The greatest threat to Christianity is not secularity. It is certainty. When you are so convinced that you are right, then you will create all types of enemies and cut yourself off from all the ways God is active in another person's experience.

This man finds a problem with a black woman highlighting a black man speaking truthfully about racism but sees no problem defending/promoting racist enslavers and even says he'd rather meet Cotton Mather over Spurgeon.

Folks, when someone who is perpetually platformed by Big Eva starts pointing people to Louis Farrakhan as a source of factual & spiritual insight, that’s all the proof you need that Big Eva & Woke dogma have passed their use-by date. twitter.com/RebeccMcLaugh/…

@LeahBSassy So cool! Curious… How do you answer the question (if asked) why do you wear a head covering?

@TravelingNun I believe both to be true. And am aligned politically with “pro-choice” because that’s how we effectively reduce abortions. “Pro-life” politics increases the number of abortions in our country. Unfortunate and inconvenient reality but facts > feelings.

Q for pro-choicers: if you believed abortion kills a human child, would that change your position? Q for pro-lifers: if you believed criminalizing abortion is counterproductive & the least effective means of reducing abortions, would that change your position? Genuinely asking.

@rayshawngraves1 This is the one. This is the Vince Carter Olympics dunk and the Deandre Jordan over Brandon Knight dunk for this generation. Did you see how he ended this game? Ja is the one us old folks have been waiting for.

@_nomadic_soul Curious to hear your thoughts on what you’d describe the main tenets are for Christianity. For me, anyone who professes (and holds to) ‘Jesus is Lord’ is claiming Christianity.

I believe you need to hold to the main tenants of a religion to claim that religion. That goes for everything, not just Christianity. If you hold to something different, that is totally fine. It’s just something different. And totally your right to believe that.

So, I've been gone from Twitter for 40 days, since I gave it up for Lent. Apparently, nothing, literally NOTHING has changed. Same old Twitter. But hopefully not same old me.

@JoshuaSharp95 Two reasons the view you describe is completely logical: 1. Neither the Nicene Creed nor the Creed of Chalcedon mention anything about sexuality. 2. Many people affirm those creeds without affirming historical ecumenical consensus on other things. Patriarchy is a good example.

Also also me: those pastors can’t hold regular jobs cuz they’d have to actually be accountable to someone other than themselves

Me: giving money to orgs like EJI is more fruitful kingdom building than giving money to non-denom churches led by untrained, unschooled “pastors” Also me: those pastors have kids and families and need the paycheck

“Spiritual abuse is when a pastor or Christian leader wields his authority in a way that is domineering, harsh, or heavy-handed to people under his care.” Grateful to hear @MichaelJKruger teach on this painful topic.
