Hunger and the Insensitivity of Mr. President I watched with deep concern the statement made by President Bola Tinubu to the Catholic Bishops who visited his office, that there has always been hunger in Nigeria, even before he was born. While it is true that hunger has been a part of human life and has existed in our country for decades, such a statement appears insensitive to the plight of the millions of Nigerians who face worsening economic hardship today. More importantly, we must focus on the facts and the measurable outcomes of governance. Before the present administration assumed office in 2023, an estimated 17 million Nigerians were facing acute food insecurity, primarily caused by insecurity, armed conflict, widespread banditry, and devastating floods. Today, less than three years later, that number has risen to about 35 million Nigerians. Instead of improving the situation, the crisis has worsened significantly under the current administration. The same trend is evident in poverty. Before this government took office in 2023, Nigeria’s extreme poverty was estimated at 87 million people. Current projections suggest that this number is approaching 140 million people, making Nigeria home to the largest population of people living in extreme poverty anywhere in the world. No one disputes that this administration inherited serious challenges. However, leadership is measured not by the challenges inherited but by the results achieved. The government must honestly acknowledge that its response has fallen far short of what the situation demanded, with millions more Nigerians pushed deeper into poverty and hunger. The combination of persistent insecurity, poor economic management, fiscal indiscipline, wasteful public expenditure, and inadequate investment in productive sectors has compounded the suffering of ordinary Nigerians. A responsible government must prioritise investment in education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and small businesses while pursuing policies that create jobs, expand production, and lift people out of poverty. That remains my commitment to the Nigerian people. A New Nigeria is Possible. PO

ADDRESS OF GOVERNOR ADEMOLA ADELEKE AT PEACE SUMMIT ON OSUN GUBER ELECTION PROTOCOL It is on a sad note that I welcome our peace leaders to Osun state. We are sad because our people, our government and my party men and women have been under siege and attacks for the past three months. THE REASON I AM ATTENDING THIS PEACE MEETING I should have boycotted this peace meeting because of the violence unleashed on Osun State in the last few months, on the directive of Gboyega Oyetola. However, my presence is due to my very deep respect for our peace leaders here present. Our gathering is to endorse peace but my government and people are facing police sanctioned violence and intimidation. War is being waged actively against my people by Osun APC openly supported by the Osun state police Command. I urge our peace leaders to help Osun State, stop a progression towards genocide against Osun people. GENOCIDE IS UNFOLDING IN OSUN In the last three months, we have lost eight party members with more than 20 injured in gun attacks. There is no single prosecution or active arrest till date. The perpetrators are known Osun APC thugs with crimes committed in the presence of the police. Video evidence is everywhere on the internet. Presently, more than 60 Accord members are in police detention without being charged to court. The SSG to the State Government was arrested on trumped up charges and was detained overnight after his house was raided without any court authorized search warrant. Top government officials are being harassed and intimidated. More than 60 Accord leaders have been arrested and moved to Abuja, and remanded in Abuja prisons and Nassarawa State prisons, including an Accord candidate for House of Representatives, Hon Alaba. This is supposed to be a democracy, where the police uphold the rule of law. Under which law can a state police commissioner take instructions from Mr Gboyega Oyetola to arrest Accord Party members in Osun State and move them to Abuja and be held in prisons without any charge? Why Abuja? We have both the Federal High Court and State high courts in Osun State, where anyone can be arraigned. On behalf of Osun State and for the sake of the rule of law, I ask the Peace Committee to prevail upon the Inspector General of Police to return everyone in police custody. Those remanded in prisons should be returned to Osun State, and be charged to Courts in Osun State, if the police can show that they have committed any crime. Just a few days ago, the leader of APC thugs who was actively fingered in all the attacks was helped by the police to take over garages and motor parks across Osun. There is an active plot to kill and maim Osun people before, during and after Osun elections. Our dear peace leaders, there is a active progression towards genocide in Osun state. We seek that you interface with Mr President to stop the Marine Minister, Gboyega Oyetola, the Osun APC and the Osun Police Commissioner from unleashing further violence on Osun people. We seek an immediate end to police unholy alliance with APC thugs and Osun APC. We call on the police authorities to emulate other security agencies which have been very professional. Police must be impartial like other security agencies. We seek free and fair polls where peoples’ will should be supreme. Our people will severely resist rigging in all forms. So far, we have refused to retaliate. My people have not resorted to self help. This is not out of weakness but due to our firm belief in rule of law. We are committed to peace but we are presently having a peace of the graveyard. We are ready for August 15; Osun people are ready to vote. Our request is for impartial policing, a fair and just electoral commission and supremacy of voters’ will at the polls. I thank you for your intervention and peace drive. H.E. ADEMOLA ADELEKE, EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF OSUN STATE JULY 30th, 2026.

Throughout history of Osun State, our people have never bowed to intimidation. We are resilient, determined, and fiercely protective of our rights. As we approach the August 15 governorship election, I have absolute confidence that no amount of external interference or intimidation can override the collective will of people of Osun State. The verdict of the people will prevail. Independent polls consistently point to a clear and decisive victory for Accord Party, because the people can see and feel the impact of our administration. From infrastructure and education to healthcare, workers’ welfare, and pension reforms, our record speaks for itself. By the grace of God and with the continued support of the good people of Osun, our second term will build on these achievements and deliver even greater progress for every community. The best days of Osun are still ahead. Let’s remain united and vigilant. Vote Accord and be prepared to defend your votes.

Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun
My Account of What Happened to the Osun State Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye My name is Rt. Hon. Adewale Olumide Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly. The abuse of power by the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Gotan, should be a source of concern and embarrassment to every patriotic Nigerian. The Deputy Governor, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and I were all present at the INEC Stakeholders' Meeting, where we sat together throughout the proceedings. We all witnessed the unfortunate moment when Commissioner Gotan was booed while on the podium by citizens of Osun State. Immediately he returned to his seat, he looked directly towards us. At that moment, the SSG laughed. The next thing I observed was Commissioner Gotan picking up his telephone and making a series of calls. From what I saw, I turned to the SSG and said, "The Commissioner of Police has just ordered your arrest." A few minutes later, the SSG received a telephone call informing him that police officers were waiting for him at his residence. He immediately stood up and left the event, leaving the Deputy Governor and me behind. Some minutes later, I contacted him to find out what had happened. He informed me that he had been invited to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) because the police allegedly recovered N4 million and two voter cards belonging to members of his political party who were holding a meeting within his compound. I honestly do not understand how such an allegation justified inviting, or attempting to arrest, a public official of his standing. Permit me to also recount a personal experience I had with Commissioner Gotan so that the public can better understand my concerns. At one point, we received credible intelligence that some APC thugs were planning to attack my residence. My security personnel and I remained on high alert in anticipation of the attack. However, to my greatest surprise, my police orderly received a call from Commissioner Gotan directing that every police officer attached to me should report to his office for questioning that very day. I immediately telephoned the Commissioner and told him that I am a proud son of Onikoyi, and that I neither fear nor bow to intimidation. I made it abundantly clear that I would never abandon my state or my ancestral home because of anyone, particularly someone I regard as a stranger. I also reminded him that, ultimately, every act of wrongdoing attracts its own consequences. In my view, Commissioner Gotan and some officers under his command have caused significant disruption in Osun State, and I sincerely believe he does not deserve to continue serving in our dear state. For the past two weeks, I have received information suggesting that some of his officers have been moving around, allegedly planning and strategising on how to implicate and arrest me. Indeed, many people have advised me to leave Osun State or vacate my residence for my own safety. However, I have consistently maintained that I will not abandon Osun for anyone. If those behind these alleged plans decide to carry them out, I remain resolute in my belief that justice will ultimately prevail and that evil will never triumph over righteousness. I, therefore, make a sincere appeal to the Inspector General of Police to urgently intervene and relieve the people of Osun State of what I consider the hardship and intimidation they have endured under the leadership of Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan. The people of Osun are peaceful, law-abiding citizens who deserve policing that is professional, impartial and respectful of the rule of law.
